Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for prioritizing electronic messages in an electronic message repository are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method may include (1) at least one computer processor determining an amount of message review time for a user; (2) the at least one computer processor estimating a number of electronic messages that the user can review in the message review time; (3) the at least one computer processor determining a priority level for a plurality of electronic messages in the user's electronic message repository; (4) the at least one computer processor selecting electronic messages from the user's electronic message repository based on the estimated number of electronic messages that the user can review and the priority level for the electronic messages.

We claim: 1. A method, performed by at least one computer processor of an electronic message controller of a sender, for preprocessing electronic messages, comprising: receiving an identification of a recipient for a draft electronic message being drafted by the sender on a sender electronic device; retrieving, from at least one processor of an electronic message controller of the recipient, electronic message history information for the recipient comprising at least one of electronic message queue information for the recipient and electronic message priority data for the recipient; analyzing the draft message to determine projected delivery information for the draft electronic message based on the electronic message history information; and providing the projected delivery information to the sender electronic device to be presented to the sender while the message is being drafted by the sender. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic message delivery priority data is based on a number of messages in an electronic message repository for the recipient. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic message delivery priority data is based on an availability of the recipient to review electronic messages. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic message delivery priority data is based on a location for the recipient. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying a change in content of the draft electronic message that changes the projected delivery information; and the at least one computer processor providing the identified change in content to the sender. 6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the change in content raises a priority level for the draft electronic message. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying a change in recipient that changes the projected delivery information; and the at least one computer processor providing the identified change in recipient to the sender. 8. The method of claim 4 , further comprising: receiving at least one of a change in content for the draft electronic message and a change in recipient; and the at least one computer processor revising the projected delivery information for the draft electronic message based on the at least one of a change in content for the draft electronic message and a change in recipient. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: suggesting at least one change to the draft electronic message to improve the projected delivery information. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the projected delivery information comprises projected message read information. 11. A method, performed by at least one computer processor of an electronic message controller of a recipient for an incoming message sent by a sender on a sender electronic message device, for processing incoming electronic messages, comprising: receiving, from at least one processor of an electronic message controller of the sender, the incoming electronic message having a sender priority; receiving recipient electronic message delivery priority data; estimating a priority of the recipient for the incoming electronic message based on the recipient electronic message delivery priority data, the sender priority, and a message queue for the recipient; receiving message acceptance guidelines of the recipient; determining whether the estimated priority of the recipient for the incoming message meets the acceptance guidelines; based on a determination that the estimated priority of the recipient does not meet the acceptance guidelines, returning the message to the sender message controller and negotiating delivery options for the message with the sender message controller; and causing the message to be delivered based on the negotiated delivery options. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: estimating a processing time for the incoming electronic message. 13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: informing the sending electronic message controller that the incoming electronic message will not meet the sender priority. 14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising: negotiating a revised electronic message priority for the incoming electronic message with the sender electronic message controller. 15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: determining that the priority for the incoming electronic message is at least the same as the sender priority; and the recipient electronic message controller delivering the electronic message to the recipient with the priority for the incoming electronic message. 16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the recipient electronic message delivery priority data is based on a number of messages in an electronic message repository for the recipient. 17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the recipient electronic message delivery priority data is based on an availability of the recipient to review electronic messages. 18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the recipient electronic message delivery priority data is based on a location for the recipient. 19. The method of claim 11 , wherein a projected message read information is based on the recipient message priority.
