What is claimed is: 1. A glucosyltransferase enzyme comprising an amino acid sequence that is at least 97% identical to: SEQ ID NO:85, SEQ ID NO:89, or SEQ ID NO:93, wherein said glucosyltransferase enzyme lacks the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:78 or SEQ ID NO:80, and wherein said glucosyltransferase enzyme produces a branched alpha-glucan polymer. 2. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 98% identical to SEQ ID NO:85, SEQ ID NO:89, or SEQ ID NO:93. 3. A reaction solution comprising water, sucrose, and a glucosyltransferase enzyme according to claim 1 . 4. A method for producing a branched alpha-glucan polymer comprising: (a) contacting at least water, sucrose, and a glucosyltransferase enzyme according to claim 1 , whereby branched alpha-glucan polymer is produced, and (b) optionally, isolating the branched alpha-glucan polymer produced in step (a). 5. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 97% identical to SEQ ID NO:85. 6. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 98% identical to SEQ ID NO:85. 7. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 97% identical to SEQ ID NO:89. 8. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 98% identical to SEQ ID NO:89. 9. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 97% identical to SEQ ID NO:93. 10. The glucosyltransferase enzyme of claim 1 , wherein the glucosyltransferase enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 98% identical to SEQ ID NO:93.
