What is claimed is: 1. A transgenic cotton seed comprising in its genome a pat/aad-12 transgenic event comprising a polynucleotide that is at least 99% identical to SEQ ID NO:21. 2. The transgenic cotton seed of claim 1 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises a first nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 1329-1380 of SEQ ID NO:1, and a second nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 143-194 of SEQ ID NO:2. 3. The transgenic cotton seed of claim 2 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises a first nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 1254-1455 of SEQ ID NO:1, and a second nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 118-219 of SEQ ID NO:2. 4. The transgenic cotton seed of claim 3 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises a first nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 1304-1405 of SEQ ID NO:1, and a second nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 68-269 of SEQ ID NO:2. 5. The transgenic cotton seed of claim 4 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises a first nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 1054-1655 of SEQ ID NO:1, and a second nucleotide sequence consisting of nucleotides 1-369 of SEQ ID NO:2. 6. The transgenic cotton seed of claim 1 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises SEQ ID NO:21. 7. A transgenic cotton plant comprising in its genome a pat/aad-12 transgenic event comprising a polynucleotide that is at least 99% identical to SEQ ID NO:21. 8. A part of the transgenic cotton plant of claim 7 , wherein the part is selected from the group consisting of pollen, ovule, flowers, bolls, shoots, roots, and leaves. 9. A method for breeding a cotton plant, the method comprising: crossing the transgenic cotton plant of claim 7 with a second cotton plant to produce a progeny cotton plant; and assaying the progeny cotton plant for the presence of the pat/aad-12 transgenic event. 10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein assaying the progeny cotton plant for the presence of the pat/aad-12 transgenic event comprises amplifying genomic DNA from the progeny plant in a polymerase chain reaction or applying an herbicide to the progeny cotton plant, wherein the herbicide is a phenoxyacetic acid herbicide, a pyridoxyacetic acid herbicide, or glufosinate. 11. A cotton meal, cotton fiber, or cotton oil from a genetically-modified plant, the meal, fiber, or oil comprising a polynucleotide that is at least 99% identical to SEQ ID NO:21. 12. A method for controlling weeds in a cotton crop comprising the transgenic cotton plant of claim 7 , the method comprising: applying an herbicide to the cotton crop, wherein the herbicide is a phenoxyacetic acid herbicide, a pyridoxyacetic acid herbicide, or glufosinate. 13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the herbicide is a phenoxyacetic acid herbicide. 14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the phenoxyacetic acid herbicide is 2,4-D or MCPA. 15. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the herbicide is a pyridoxyacetic acid herbicide. 16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the pyridoxyacetic acid herbicide is triclopyr or fluroxypyr. 17. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the herbicide is glufosinate.
