Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

According to aspects of the present disclosure, a retrieval device may include a sheath, a first drive member in the sheath, and a second drive member in the sheath. The second drive member may be movable relative to the first drive member. An end effector may be retractable into and extendable out of the sheath. The end effector may include a first proximal end portion coupled to the first drive member, a second proximal end portion coupled to the second drive member, and a plurality of legs extending distally from the first and second proximal end portions to a distal tip of the end effector. All of the legs that extend to the distal tip may be fixed together at the distal tip.

We claim: 1. A retrieval device, comprising: an outer sheath having a distalmost end; a first drive member in the outer sheath; an inner sheath, wherein the inner sheath is coupled to the first drive member and is movable between a first position and a second position, wherein in the first position, at least a portion of the inner sheath is received within the outer sheath, and wherein in the second position, an entirety of the inner sheath is distal to the distalmost end of the outer sheath; a second drive member in the outer sheath, the second drive member being movable relative to the first drive member; an end effector retractable into and extendable out of the outer sheath, the end effector comprising: a tip including a coupler, a first leg extending from the coupler to the inner sheath, and a second leg extending from the coupler to the second drive member; and an actuator for moving the first and the second drive members, wherein the first and the second drive members circumscribe a radially outer periphery of the actuator. 2. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein the retrieval device comprises more than two drive members. 3. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein one of the first or the second drive members is movable in at least one of a proximal direction or a distal direction relative to the other of the first or the second drive members. 4. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein one of the first or the second drive members is movable in at least one of a proximal direction or a distal direction while the other of the first or the second drive members does not move in the proximal direction or the distal direction. 5. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein one of the first or the second drive members is movable in a proximal direction while the other of or first and the second drive members moves in a distal direction. 6. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein the first and the second drive members are simultaneously movable in at least one of a proximal direction or a distal direction. 7. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein the coupler receives a portion of each of the first and the second legs. 8. The retrieval device of claim 7 , wherein the end effector includes the first and the second legs, and one or more additional legs, and wherein a greater number of legs extend from the coupler to the inner sheath than from the coupler to the second drive member. 9. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein the end effector has a first extended configuration, wherein in the first extended configuration: the end effector extends out of the outer sheath, and a first end of the coupler is a distalmost end of the coupler, wherein the end effector is movable to a second extended configuration, wherein in the second extended configuration: the end effector extends out of the outer sheath, and a second end of the coupler is the distalmost end of the coupler, the first and the second ends of the coupler being spaced apart from each other. 10. The retrieval device of claim 1 , wherein the end effector further comprises a plurality of first legs extending from the coupler to the inner sheath, and wherein the plurality of first legs are received within the inner sheath. 11. A retrieval device, comprising: a sheath; a first drive member in the sheath; a second drive member in the sheath, the second drive member being movable relative to the first drive member; and an end effector retractable into and extendable out of the sheath, the end effector comprising: one or more first legs driven by the first drive member, one or more second legs driven by the second drive member, and a coupler configured to receive the one or more first and the one or more second legs, wherein the coupler has a first end and a second end, the first and the second ends being opposite ends of the coupler, the one or more first legs includes a plurality of legs that extend between the coupler and the first drive member, and the end effector is configured such that movement of the first drive member in the sheath moves the coupler between: a first position, in which the first end is a distalmost portion of the coupler and the second end is a proximalmost portion of the coupler, and a second position, in which the second end is the distalmost portion of the coupler and the first end is the proximalmost portion of the coupler. 12. The retrieval device of claim 11 , wherein the first drive member is extendable out of the sheath and distal to the coupler as the coupler moves toward the second position. 13. The retrieval device of claim 11 , further including a tubular member within the sheath, the tubular member receiving the plurality of legs and the first drive member, wherein in the second position of the coupler, the tubular member extends distal to the coupler. 14. The retrieval device of claim 11 , wherein an orientation of the coupler reverses as the coupler moves from the first position to the second position. 15. The retrieval device of claim 11 , wherein the coupler is fixedly attached to distal ends of the one or more first and the one or more second legs. 16. A retrieval device, comprising: a sheath having a distalmost end; a first drive member in the sheath; a second drive member in the sheath, the second drive member being movable relative to the first drive member; an end effector retractable into and extendable out of the sheath, the end effector comprising: a coupler, one or more first legs received by the coupler and extending from the coupler to the first drive member, one or more second legs received by the coupler and extending from the coupler to the second drive member, and wherein the end effector is configured such that movement of the first drive member in the sheath, relative to the second drive member, moves the end effector between a first position, in which an end of the coupler faces a first direction, and a second position, in which the end of the coupler faces a second direction, the first and the second directions being opposite directions; and a tubular coupler that receives the one or more first legs and the first drive member, wherein the tubular coupler is configured to deflect from a linear configuration, when the end effector is in the first position, to a curved configuration, when the end effector is in the second position, through movement of at least one of the first or second drive members in the sheath. 17. The retrieval device of claim 16 , wherein one or more terminal ends of the one or more first legs are received within the tubular coupler, and wherein a terminal end of the first drive member is received within the tubular coupler.
