Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A pigment dispersion containing a metal pigment, wherein the metal pigment contains plate-like particles, and in the case where the longitudinal diameter on the planar surface of the plate-like particle is X, the lateral diameter is Y, and the thickness is Z, the 50% average particle diameter R50 of a corresponding circle determined from the surface area in the X-Y plane of the plate-like particle is between 0.5 and 3 μm, and the condition R50/Z>5 is satisfied.

The invention claimed is: 1. A non-aqueous inkjet ink composition, comprising: a metal pigment containing plate-like particles; and an organic solvent containing an alkylene glycol ether and a lactone so that an image can be formed with the ink composition on a polyvinyl chloride film without an ink reception layer with measurement values for specular gloss of the polyvinyl chloride film at angles of 85°, as defined by JIS Z 8741, that is no less than 116, wherein the maximum particle diameter Rmax of a corresponding circle determined from the surface area in the X-Y plane of the plate-like particles is 10 μm or less, and wherein the metal pigment is aluminum or an aluminum alloy. 2. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein when applied to an inkjet recording device having L is the nozzle diameter of an inkjet head, the number of plate-like particles where a particle diameter R of a corresponding circle determined from the surface area in the X-Y plane of the plate-like particles satisfies a condition R>(L/5) being no more than 5% of a total number of the plate-like particles. 3. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the alkylene glycol ether comprises an alkylene glycol diether and/or an alkylene glycol monoether, wherein the alkylene glycol monoether is selected from a group consisting of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoisopropyl ether, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylene glycol monohexyl ether, ethylene glycol monophenyl ether, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, diethylene glycol diethyl ether, triethylene glycol monomethyl ether, triethylene glycol monoethyl ether, triethylene glycol monobutyl ether, tetraethylene glycol monomethyl ether, tetraethylene glycol monoethyl ether, propylene glycol monomethyl ether, propylene glycol monomethyl ether, dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, and dipropylene glycol monoethyl ether, and wherein the alkylene glycol diether is selected from a group consisting of ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, ethylene glycol diethyl ether, ethylene glycol dibutyl ether, diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, diethylene glycol diethyl ether, diethylene glycol dibutyl ether, triethylene glycol dimethyl ether, triethylene glycol diethyl ether, triethylene glycol dibutyl ether, tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether, tetraethylene glycol diethyl ether, tetraethylene glycol dibutyl ether, propylene glycol dimethyl ether, propylene glycol diethyl ether, dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether, and dipropylene glycol diethyl ether. 4. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the lactone is selected from a group consisting of γ-butyrolactone, δ valerolactone, and ε-caprolactone. 5. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the concentration of the metal pigment in the ink composition is between 0.75 and 1.5 wt %. 6. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , further comprises a resin. 7. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 6 , wherein the resin is at least one type of resin selected from a group consisting of polyvinyl butyral, cellulose acetatobutyrate, and polyacryllic polyol. 8. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 6 , wherein the amount of resin is equal to or less than 2 wt %. 9. The non-aqueous inkjet ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the measurement values for the specular gloss of the polyvinyl chloride film at angles of 20° and 60°, as defined by JIS Z 8741, are no less than 275 and 408, respectively.
