Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Some implementations provide a machine-assisted method for screening a person, the method including: receiving, at a scanning device, an identification document presented by the person, the identification document showing a machine-readable code that encodes personally identifiable information of the person, a biometric of the person, and printed information; scanning the machine-readable code on the identification document to extract personally identifiable information of the person; comparing the extracted personally identifiable information against records stored at a database; determining that the extracted personal identifiable information matches a record stored at the database; receiving data encoding the biometric of the person on the identification document for comparison with the person presenting the identification document; receiving a determination that the biometric from the identification document identifies the person presenting the identification document; and determining whether the identification document is digitally watermarked to identify payload data.

What is claimed is: 1. A computer-implemented method comprising: obtaining a digital image of a document that identifies an individual, the document comprising encoded data that encodes identifying information about a person; extracting, from the encoded data, the identifying information about the person, wherein the extracted identifying information includes data that represents a biometric of the person; determining whether a portion of the extracted identifying information matches information in at least one identity record stored in a database; in response to determining that the portion of the extracted identifying information matches the information stored in the at least one identity record, obtaining data that represents a biometric of the individual identified by the document; determining whether the data that represents the biometric of the person matches the obtained data that represents the biometric of the individual identified by the document; identifying a digital marker embedded at the document, the digital marker being configured to include payload data for authenticating the document; and in response to authenticating the document using the payload data included at the digital marker, generating a notification that indicates the individual identified by the document is eligible for expedited screening. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein authenticating the document using the payload data comprises: retrieving the payload data in response to analyzing the digital marker embedded at the document; and extracting, from the payload data, personal information about the individual identified by the document, the personal information being encoded in the payload data. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein authenticating the document using the payload data comprises: obtaining information printed on the document, the information printed on the document comprising personal information about the individual identified by the document; determining a correlation between the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data; and authenticating the document in response to determining the correlation. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein determining the correlation comprises: generating a numerical correlation level that characterizes a comparison of the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data; and determining the correlation between the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data in response to the numerical correlation level exceeding a threshold correlation level. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying a label affixed to a portion of the document, the label being issued by a particular issuing authority; determining a confidence in an issuance process of the document based on the identified label affixed to the portion of the document; and generating the notification that indicates the individual identified by the document is eligible for expedited screening, at least with reference to the determined confidence in the issuance process of the document. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the digital marker comprises mixed-domain information and the method further comprises: obtaining the mixed-domain information to derive the payload data for authenticating the document. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data that represents the biometric of the person comprises a digital image that depicts one or more facial features of the person. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biometric of the person comprises at least one of: one or more facial features, a finger print, an iris, a pupil, or a retina. 9. A system comprising: a processing device; a non-transitory computer-readable storage device having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the processing device, causes performance of operations comprising: obtaining a digital image of a document that identifies an individual, the document comprising encoded data that encodes identifying information about a person; extracting, from the encoded data, the identifying information about the person, wherein the extracted identifying information includes data that represents a biometric of the person; determining whether a portion of the extracted identifying information matches information in at least one identity record stored in a database; in response to determining that the portion of the extracted identifying information matches the information stored in the at least one identity record, obtaining data that represents a biometric of the individual identified by the document; determining whether the data that represents the biometric of the person matches the obtained data that represents the biometric of the individual identified by the document; identifying a digital marker embedded at the document, the digital marker being configured to include payload data for authenticating the document; and in response to authenticating the document using the payload data included at the digital marker, generating a notification that indicates the individual identified by the document is eligible for expedited screening. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein authenticating the document using the payload data comprises: retrieving the payload data in response to analyzing the digital marker embedded at the document; and extracting, from the payload data, personal information about the individual identified by the document, the personal information being encoded in the payload data. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein authenticating the document using the payload data comprises: obtaining information printed on the document, the information printed on the document comprising personal information about the individual identified by the document; determining a correlation between the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data; and authenticating the document in response to determining the correlation. 12. The system of claim 11 , wherein determining the correlation comprises: generating a numerical correlation level that characterizes a comparison of the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data; and determining the correlation between the information printed on the document and the personal information extracted from the payload data in response to the numerical correlation level exceeding a threshold correlation level. 13. The system of claim 9 , further comprising: identifying a label affixed to a portion of the document, the label being issued by a particular issuing authority; determining a confidence in an issuance process of the document based on the identified label affixed to the portion of the document; and generating the notification that indicates the individual identified by the document is eligible for expedited screening, at least with reference to the determined confidence in the issuance process of the document. 14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the digital marker comprises mixed-domain information and the operations further comprises: obtaining the mixed-domain information to derive the payload data for authenticating the document. 15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the data that represents the biometric of the person comprises a digital image that depicts one or more facial features of the person. 16. One or more non-transitory machine-readable storage devices storing instructions that are executable
