A method of lamp assembly that etching a glass tube body to increase a texture of the surface of the sidewall of the glass tube body, the sidewall of the glass tube body enclosing a hollow interior; and positioning a circuit board including a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) within the hollow interior of the glass tube, wherein the increase in the texture of the surface increases the light diffusivity of the glass tube body.

What is claimed is: 1. A lamp comprising: a glass tube body having a perimeter defined by a sidewall of the glass tube body for enclosing a hollow interior, that glass tube body having an exterior surface and an interior surface, in which the exterior surface and the interior surface of the sidewall are textured to increase light diffusivity; and at least one light emitting diode (LED) comprising a substrate that provides the light positioned within the hollow interior of the glass tube body. 2. The lamp of claim 1 , wherein the substrate is a circuit board having sidewalls engaged to the sidewall of the glass tube body. 3. The lamp of claim 1 , wherein said exterior surface has a first roughness that has a root mean square (RMS) roughness greater than 250 nm and smaller than 1.5 microns. 4. The lamp of claim 3 , wherein said interior surface has a second roughness that has an root mean square (RMS) roughness greater than 250 nm and smaller than 1.5 microns. 5. The lamp of claim 4 , wherein said textured surface on exterior surface having said first roughness is substantially equal to a said texture on said interior surface having said second roughness. 6. The lamp of claim 4 , wherein said textured surface that provides at least one of said first roughness and said second roughness includes a plurality of scallops defined by a peaked upper surface and tapered sidewalls extending to a base having a greater width than the peaked upper surface of the scallops. 7. The lamp of claim 4 , wherein said texture that provides at least one of said first roughness and said second roughness includes a plurality of plateaus each including surface projections having an inverted v-shaped side cross-sectional geometry, the upper surface of the projection provided by the apex of the inverted v-shape.
