The invention claimed is: 1. An armrest device, comprising: an interior member provided on an inboard side of a vehicle door; and an armrest main body supported by the interior member so as to be moveable between an initial position and a projecting position more inboard and forward than the initial position, wherein the interior member includes a main body portion extending along the inboard side of the vehicle door and an armrest base portion projecting in an inboard direction from the main body portion, the armrest base portion is provided with a base side wall portion extending vertically on an inboard side thereof, the armrest main body is provided with a main body side wall portion extending in a fore and aft direction and opposing the base side wall portion in a spaced apart relationship, the main body side wall portion is provided with a load absorbing member for absorbing an impact load, the base side wall portion inclines in the outboard direction as one moves rearward, and the load absorbing member has a progressively increasing lateral width toward the rear. 2. The armrest device according to claim 1 , wherein the armrest main body is configured to move linearly between the initial position and the projecting position as a translational movement. 3. The armrest device according to claim 1 , wherein the load absorbing member includes a rib projecting from the main body side wall portion so as to be deformable under an impact load. 4. The armrest device according to claim 3 , wherein the outboard edges of the ribs are arranged parallel to the base side wall. 5. The armrest device according to claim 4 , wherein the armrest main body is supported by the armrest base portion via a slide mechanism, the slide mechanism includes a rail attached to one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion, and a slider attached to the opposite one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion so as to be slidably supported by the rail, the load absorbing member is positioned rearward of the rail in the initial position. 6. The armrest device according to claim 1 , wherein the armrest main body is supported by the armrest base portion via a slide mechanism. 7. The armrest device according to claim 6 , wherein the slide mechanism includes a rail attached to one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion, and a slider attached to the opposite one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion so as to be slidably supported by the rail. 8. The armrest device according to claim 7 , wherein the armrest base portion is provided with a base side wall portion extending vertically on an inboard side thereof, and the base side wall portion is formed with a recess recessed in an outboard direction, a side surface of the recess facing in the inboard direction extending in a direction of the translational movement of the armrest main body and having the rail mounted thereon. 9. The armrest device according to claim 6 , wherein the slide mechanism comprises a guide sleeve connected to one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion, and a rod connected to the opposite one of the armrest main body and the armrest base portion so as to be slidably supported by the guide sleeve. 10. The armrest device according to claim 9 , wherein the armrest base portion is provided with a base side wall portion extending vertically on an inboard side thereof, and a large part of the guide sleeve is positioned on an outboard side of the base side wall portion. 11. The armrest device according to claim 1 , wherein a switch portion is provided on the main body portion of the interior member so as to project in the inboard direction to support a switch box, and the armrest base portion is positioned behind the switch portion in a spaced apart relationship. 12. The armrest device according to claim 1 , wherein a switch portion is provided on the interior member so as to project in an inboard direction to support a switch box, and an extension projects from an inboard side of the switch portion in the inboard direction in such a manner that a front edge of an inboard side of the armrest main body extends continuously with a projecting edge on an inboard side of the extension in a fore and aft direction when the armrest main body is in the projecting position. 13. The armrest device according to claim 12 , wherein a surface of the inboard side of the armrest main body facing in the inboard direction is flush with a surface of the projecting edge of the extension facing in the inboard direction. 14. The armrest device according to claim 12 , wherein an upper part of the extension is formed with a pocket having an upwardly facing opening. 15. An interior member comprising the armrest device according to claim 1 . 16. An armrest device comprising, an interior member provided on an inboard side of a vehicle door; and an armrest main body supported by the interior member so as to be moveable between an initial position and a projecting position more inboard and forward than the initial position, wherein the interior member includes a main body portion extending along the inboard side of the vehicle door and an armrest base portion projecting in an inboard direction from the main body portion, the armrest base portion is provided with a base side wall portion extending vertically on an inboard side thereof, and the base side wall portion opposes the armrest main body and is provided with a light source. 17. The armrest device according to claim 16 , wherein the light source is provided in a position of the base side wall portion that opposes an edge part of the armrest main body in the initial position. 18. The armrest device according to claim 16 , wherein the interior member includes a connecting portion connected to a front end of the armrest base portion, the base side wall portion is formed with a recess recessed in an outboard direction, and the light source is provided in a position between the connecting portion and the recess. 19. The armrest device according to claim 16 , wherein the size of a gap between the armrest base portion and the armrest main body varies depending on the position of the armrest main body with respect to the armrest base portion. 20. An interior member comprising the armrest device according to claim 16 .
