Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Examples of the disclosure provide real-time display of achievements to a user during gameplay. A computing device receives a request from a user to display a portion of achievement data describing performance of the user in a gaming application. Responsive to the received request, the achievement data is filtered based on contextual criteria. The filtered achievement data is provided to a user interface for display during gameplay. The displayed achievement data is updated by the computing device updates during gameplay. The achievement data may be system-level achievement data. Further, the achievement data may be displayed on another computing device.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: storing, at a cloud service, achievement data describing performance of a user in a gaming application for execution on a computing device; receiving, at the cloud service, a request from the computing device for at least a portion of the achievement data; responsive to the received request, filtering, by a processor, the achievement data based on contextual criteria on the cloud service; providing, by the processor, the filtered achievement data to the computing device for display to a user during gameplay; and updating, by the cloud service, the achievement data by: intermittently receiving data corresponding to gaming progress based at least in part on the execution of the gaming application on the computing device; generating, by the cloud service, additional achievement data based at least in part on the data corresponding to the gaming progress; and providing, by the cloud service, the additional achievement data to the computing device for display to the user during the gameplay. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a set of application programming interface (APIs) to applications to access the achievement data. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the achievement data comprises a set of achievements and user progress relating thereto, and wherein filtering the achievement data based on the contextual criteria comprises providing one or more achievements relevant to a current context of the gaming application played by the user and one or more previous achievements relevant to at least one other application. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein providing the one or more achievements comprises providing one or more achievements available to be met in a current level being played by the user in the gaming application. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the achievement data comprises a set of achievements and user progress relating thereto, and wherein filtering the achievement data based on the contextual criteria comprises sorting the achievements based on the contextual criteria selected from a group consisting of a progress of the user, user preferences, and a gamer score of the user. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the achievement data represents system-level achievement data comprising achievement data from one or more other gaming applications. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein intermittently receiving the data corresponding to the progress comprises intermittently receiving context tags associated with the gaming progress; and wherein generating additional achievement data based at least in part on the data corresponding to the gaming progress comprises: comparing the context tags with achievement tags; identifying one or more of the context tags that match one or more of the achievement tags; and generating the additional achievement data based at least in part on the one or more context tags that match the one or more of the achievement tags. 8. A system comprising: a server comprising one or more processors; and a memory area associated with the server, the memory area storing achievement data for a user describing performance of the user in a gaming application executed on a computing device, wherein the one or more processors are programmed to: receive a request from the computing device for at least a portion of the achievement data; responsive to the received request, filtering the achievement data based on contextual criteria on the cloud service; provide the filtered achievement data to the computing device for display to the user during gameplay; and update the achievement data by: intermittently receiving data corresponding to gaming progress based at least in part on the execution of the gaming application on the computing device; generating additional achievement data based at least in part on the data corresponding to the gaming progress; and providing the additional achievement data to the computing device for display to the user during the gameplay. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further programmed to provide a set of application programming interface (APIs) to applications to access the achievement data. 10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the achievement data comprises a set of achievements and user progress relating thereto, and wherein filtering the achievement data based on the contextual criteria comprises providing one or more achievements relevant to a current context of the gaming application played by the user and one or more previous achievements relevant to at least one other application. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein providing the one or more achievements comprises providing one or more achievements available to be met in a current level being played by the user in the gaming application. 12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the achievement data comprises a set of achievements and user progress relating thereto, and wherein filtering the achievement data based on the contextual criteria comprises sorting the achievements based on the contextual criteria selected from a group consisting of a progress of the user, user preferences, and a gamer score of the user. 13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the achievement data represents system-level achievement data comprising achievement data from one or more other gaming applications. 14. The system of claim 8 , wherein intermittently receiving the data corresponding to the progress comprises intermittently receiving context tags associated with the gaming progress; and wherein generating additional achievement data based at least in part on the data corresponding to the gaming progress comprises: comparing the context tags with achievement tags; identifying one or more of the context tags that match one or more of the achievement tags; and generating the additional achievement data based at least in part on the one or more context tags that match the one or more of the achievement tags. 15. One or more computer storage media embodying computer-executable instruction that when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: storing achievement data describing performance of a user in a gaming application for execution on a computing device; receiving a request from the computing device for at least a portion of the achievement data; responsive to the received request, filtering, by a context component, the achievement data based on contextual criteria; providing, by an interface component, the filtered achievement data to the computing device for display to a user during gameplay; and updating the achievement data by: intermittently receiving data corresponding to gaming progress based at least in part on the execution of the gaming application on the computing device; generating additional achievement data based at least in part on the data corresponding to the gaming progress; and providing the additional achievement data to the computing device for display to the user during the gameplay. 16. The one or more computer storage media of claim 15 , wherein the computer-executable instruction further cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising providing a set of application programming interface (APIs) to applications to access the achievement data. 17. The one or more computer storage media of claim 15 , wherein the achievement data comprises a set of achievements and user progress relating thereto, and wherein filtering the achievement data based on the contextual criteri
