An adequate mechanical stiffness and strength are afforded to a tumble seat or a vehicle seat having a latch mechanism provided in a rear end of the seat cushion. A cushion frame (F 1 ) of the seat includes a side frame ( 5 ) extending in a fore and aft direction, and the side frame includes a first member ( 10 ) comprising a channel member having an open side facing sideways and a second member ( 11 ) attached to the first member so as to form a closed cross section jointly with the first member, and extending downward further than the first member. A latch mechanism is positioned under the first member and attached to the second member.

The invention claimed is: 1. A vehicle seat including a seat cushion frame having a front part pivotally supported by a floor and a rear part fitted with a latch mechanism adapted to be detachably engaged by a striker attached to the floor, wherein the seat cushion frame includes a pair of side frames extending in a fore and aft direction on either side of the seat cushion frame, a front frame connecting front ends of the side frames to each other, and a rear frame connecting rear ends of the side frames to each other, at least one of the side frames includes a first member and a second member, the first member and the second member being welded to each other and defining a closed cross section, the latch mechanism is attached to the second member and positioned under the closed cross section and has a slot for receiving the striker, and the closed cross section is disposed on an extension line of the slot. 2. The vehicle seat according to claim 1 , wherein the side frame is provided with a pair of reinforcement features, and the extension line of the slot passes through between the pair of reinforcement features in a side view. 3. The vehicle seat according to claim 2 , wherein the reinforcement features consist of a bead formed by locally bulging the side frame. 4. The vehicle seat according to claim 2 , wherein, the first member comprises a vertically extending first side wall, a first upper wall extending from an upper edge of the first side wall and a first lower wall extending from a lower edge of the first side wall in a same direction, the second member comprises a second upper wall overlying the first upper wall, and a second side wall extending downward from the second upper wall beyond the first lower wall, the first side wall, the first upper wall, the first lower wall and the second side wall define the closed cross section, the reinforcement features are provided on the second side wall and vertically extend from above the first lower wall to below the first lower wall. 5. The vehicle seat according to claim 2 , wherein the extending direction of the reinforcement features are parallel to the extending direction of the slot. 6. The vehicle seat according to claim 4 , wherein the latch mechanism includes a base plate, the base plate comprises a vertical wall portion extending vertically and attached to the second side wall and a lateral wall portion extending laterally from the upper end of the vertical wall portion and facing the first lower wall. 7. The vehicle seat according to claim 6 , wherein the vertical wall portion and the lateral wall portion are integrally formed. 8. The vehicle seat according to claim 4 , wherein the second member is located on the inner side of the first member. 9. The vehicle seat according to claim 6 , wherein the lateral wall portion is disposed laterally outward with respect to the first side wall. 10. The vehicle seat according to claim 6 , wherein the latch mechanism includes a hook pivotally supported in the base plate and engaging with the striker, a pivot shaft of the hook is deposited between the closed section structure and the striker in the vertical direction. 11. The vehicle seat according to claim 1 , wherein the front-rear width of the closed cross section is larger than the front-rear width of the striker. 12. A vehicle seat including a seat cushion frame having a front part pivotally supported by a floor and a rear part fitted with a latch mechanism adapted to be detachably engaged by a striker attached to the floor, wherein the seat cushion frame includes a pair of side frames extending in a fore and aft direction on either side of the seat cushion frame, a front frame connecting front ends of the side frames to each other, and a rear frame connecting rear ends of the side frames to each other, at least one of the side frames includes a closed cross section, the latch mechanism is positioned under the closed cross section and has a slot for receiving the striker, the closed cross section is disposed on an extension line of the slot, the side frame includes a first member and a second member, the first member comprises a vertically extending first side wall, a first upper wall extending from an upper edge of the first side wall and a first lower wall extending from a lower edge of the first side wall in a same direction, the second member comprises a second upper wall overlying the first upper wall, and a second side wall extending downward from the second upper wall beyond the first lower wall, and the first side wall, the first upper wall, the first lower wall and the second side wall define the closed cross section. 13. A vehicle seat including a seat cushion frame having a front part pivotally supported by a floor and a rear part fitted with a latch mechanism adapted to be detachably engaged by a striker attached to the floor, wherein the seat cushion frame includes a pair of side frames extending in a fore and aft direction on either side of the seat cushion frame, a front frame connecting front ends of the side frames to each other, and a rear frame connecting rear ends of the side frames to each other, at least one of the side frames includes a closed cross section, the latch mechanism is positioned under the closed cross section and has a slot for receiving the striker, the closed cross section is disposed on an extension line of the slot, the side frame is provided with a pair of reinforcement features, and the extended line of the slot passes through between the pair of reinforcement features in a side view, the side frame includes a first member and a second member, the first member comprises a vertically extending first side wall, a first upper wall extending from an upper edge of the first side wall and a first lower wall extending from a lower edge of the first side wall in a same direction, the second member comprises a second upper wall overlying the first upper wall, and a second side wall extending downward from the second upper wall beyond the first lower wall, the first side wall, the first upper wall, the first lower wall and the second side wall define the closed cross section, and the reinforcement features are provided on the second side wall and vertically extend from above the first lower wall to below the first lower wall.
