Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

There is provided a recall and triggering system and method for the control of on-air graphics at remote locations. The system including a television network and an affiliated station, the television network configured to insert a command into a video and transmit the video including the command to the affiliated station, and the affiliated station configured to receive the video including the command from the television network, store the video in the memory, detect the command from the video stored in the memory, retrieve the data from a database based on the command, modify the video using the data to generate a modified video, and transmit the modified video to a display device. The database may be stored in the memory of the affiliated station or on a separate server. The data may include graphics, content, databases, spreadsheets, tables, websites, news, or other graphical content.

What is claimed is: 1. An affiliated station for communication with a television network, the affiliated station comprising: a memory; and a processor configured to: receive a video from the television network, the video including a command inserted into the video using a data identifier (DID) and a secondary data identifier (SDID) and carried in an ancillary data area of the video; store the video and the inserted command in the memory, the memory also storing a command detection module and a local content element insertion module; after storing the video and the inserted command in the memory, detect, using the command detection module also stored in the memory, the inserted command by searching through the ancillary data area of the video stored in the memory; load a database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; identify a first content element, a second content element, and a third content element having a layering order in the video using image recognition performed by the command detection module and the local content element insertion module based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; retrieve data from the database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; modify the video using the data based on the inserted command by changing the layering order of the first content element, the second content element, and the third content element to generate a modified video; and transmit the modified video to a display device. 2. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the memory includes the database. 3. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the data includes a graphic and the inserted command includes inserting the graphic into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the graphic into the video. 4. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the data includes content and the inserted command includes inserting the content into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the content into the video. 5. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the data includes a program local to the affiliated station and the inserted command includes inserting the program into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the program into the video. 6. A system comprising: a television network; and an affiliated station; the television network having a processor configured to: insert a command into a video; and transmit the video including the inserted command to the affiliated station; the affiliated station having a processor and a memory, the processor of the affiliated station configured to: receive, from the television network, the video including the inserted command using a data identifier (DID) and a secondary data identifier (SDID) and carried in an ancillary data area of the video; store the video and the inserted command in the memory, the memory also storing a command detection module and a local content element insertion module; after storing the video and the inserted command in the memory, detect, using the command detection module also stored in the memory, the inserted command by searching through the ancillary data area of the video stored in the memory; load a database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; identify a first content element, a second content element, and a third content element having a layering order in the video using image recognition performed by the command detection module and the local content element insertion module based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; retrieve data from the database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; modify the video using the data retrieved based on the inserted command by changing the layering order of the first content element, the second content element, and the third content element to generate a modified video; and transmit the modified video to a display device. 7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the data includes a graphic and the inserted command includes inserting the graphic into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the graphic into the video. 8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the data includes content and the inserted command includes inserting the content into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the content into the video. 9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the data includes a program local to the affiliated station and the inserted command includes inserting the program into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the program into the video. 10. A method for modifying a video based on an inserted command received from a television network, the method comprising: receiving the video from the television network, the video including the inserted command inserted into the video using a data identifier (DID) and a secondary data identifier (SDID) and carried in an ancillary data area of the video; storing the video and the inserted command in a memory, the memory also storing a command detection module and a local content element insertion module; after storing the video and the inserted command in the memory, detecting, using the command detection module also stored in the memory, the inserted command by searching through the ancillary data area of the video stored in the memory; loading a database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; identifying a first content element, a second content element, and a third content element having a layering order in the video using image recognition performed by the command detection module and the local content element insertion module based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; retrieving data from the database based on the inserted command detected by searching through the video; modifying the video using the data retrieved based on the inserted command by changing the layering order of the first content element, the second content element, and the third content element to generate a modified video; and transmitting the modified video to a display device. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the memory includes the database. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data includes a graphic and the inserted command includes inserting the graphic into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the graphic into the video. 13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data includes content and the inserted command includes inserting the content into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the content into the video. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data includes a program local to the affiliated station and the inserted command includes inserting the program into the video, and wherein the affiliated station generates the modified video by inserting the program into the video. 15. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the ancillary data area of the video is a vertical ancillary data (VANC) area of the video. 16. The system of claim 6 , wherein the ancillary data area of the video is a vertical ancillary data (VANC) area of the video. 17. The affiliated station of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to ret
