Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicular vision system includes a driver-side exterior mirror assembly, a passenger-side mirror assembly and an interior mirror assembly. The fields of view of the mirror reflective elements of the exterior mirror assemblies are adjustable by the driver via a respective actuator. The exterior mirror assemblies include respective cameras that each have a respective rearward field of view that supplements the field of view of the mirror reflective element when viewed by the driver of the vehicle. A video display is disposed behind the mirror reflector of an interior mirror reflective element such that displayed video images are viewable through the mirror reflector of the interior mirror reflective element. The video display includes a driver-side display portion and a passenger-side display portion that each display images derived from image data captured by the respective camera while not displaying images derived from image data captured by the other camera.

We claim: 1. A vehicular vision system, said vehicular vision system comprising: a driver-side exterior mirror assembly configured for mounting at a driver side of a vehicle equipped with said vehicular vision system; wherein said driver-side exterior mirror assembly comprises a driver-side mirror reflective element that, with said driver-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the driver side of the equipped vehicle, has a field of view at the driver side of the equipped vehicle, when viewed by a driver of the equipped vehicle, rearward of the equipped vehicle; wherein the field of view of said driver-side mirror reflective element is adjustable by the driver via a driver-side driver-operable actuator of said driver-side exterior mirror assembly; wherein said driver-side exterior mirror assembly comprises a driver-side camera that, with said driver-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the driver side of the equipped vehicle, has at least a rearward field of view at the driver side of the equipped vehicle; wherein, with said driver-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the driver side of the equipped vehicle, the rearward field of view at the driver side of the equipped vehicle of said driver-side camera supplements the field of view of said driver-side mirror reflective element when said driver-side mirror reflective element is viewed by the driver of the equipped vehicle; wherein said driver-side camera views at least a blind spot region adjacent the driver side of the equipped vehicle when said driver-side mirror reflective element is adjusted by the driver via said driver-side driver-operable actuator to provide the driver with the driver's desired rearward view at the driver side of the equipped vehicle, the blind spot region adjacent the driver side of the equipped vehicle being outside the field of view at the driver side of the equipped vehicle of said driver-side mirror reflective element when said driver-side mirror reflective element is viewed by the driver of the equipped vehicle; a passenger-side exterior mirror assembly configured for mounting at a passenger side of the equipped vehicle; wherein said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly comprises a passenger-side mirror reflective element that, with said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, has a field of view at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, when viewed by the driver of the equipped vehicle, rearward of the equipped vehicle; wherein the field of view of said passenger-side mirror reflective element is adjustable by the driver via a passenger-side driver-operable actuator of said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly; wherein said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly comprises a passenger-side camera that, with said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, has at least a rearward field of view at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle; wherein said passenger-side camera, with said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, is operable to capture passenger-side image data; wherein, with said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly mounted at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, the rearward field of view at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle of said passenger-side camera supplements the field of view of said passenger-side mirror reflective element when said passenger-side mirror reflective element is viewed by the driver of the equipped vehicle; wherein said passenger-side camera views at least a blind spot region adjacent the passenger side of the equipped vehicle when said passenger-side mirror reflective element is adjusted by the driver via said passenger-side driver-operable actuator to provide the driver with the driver's desired rearward view at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle, the blind spot region adjacent the passenger side of the equipped vehicle being outside the field of view at the passenger side of the equipped vehicle of said passenger-side mirror reflective element when said passenger-side mirror reflective element is viewed by the driver of the equipped vehicle; an interior rearview mirror assembly configured for mounting at an interior portion of the equipped vehicle, wherein said interior rearview mirror assembly comprises an interior mirror reflective element that, with said interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the interior portion of the equipped vehicle, provides a rearward field of view to the driver when viewing said interior rearview mirror assembly; wherein said interior mirror reflective element of said interior rearview mirror assembly comprises an electrochromic interior mirror reflective element having a partially light transmissive and partially light reflecting mirror reflector; a video display disposed behind said partially light transmissive and partially light reflecting mirror reflector of said interior mirror reflective element, wherein, when said video display is displaying video images, the displayed video images are viewable through said partially light transmissive and partially light reflecting mirror reflector of said interior mirror reflective element, and wherein, when said video display is not displaying video images, said video display is covert behind said partially light transmissive and partially light reflecting mirror reflector of said interior mirror reflective element; wherein, with said interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the interior portion of the equipped vehicle, said video display is operable to display video images derived from driver-side image data captured by said driver-side camera; wherein, with said interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the interior portion of the equipped vehicle, said video display is operable to display video images derived from passenger-side image data captured by said passenger-side camera; wherein said video display comprises a driver-side display portion and a passenger-side display portion; wherein, with said interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the interior portion of the equipped vehicle and with said video display disposed at said interior rearview mirror assembly, said driver-side display portion is located closer to said driver-side exterior mirror assembly than said passenger-side display portion; wherein, with said interior rearview mirror assembly mounted at the interior portion of the equipped vehicle and with said video display disposed at said interior rearview mirror assembly, said passenger-side display portion is located closer to said passenger-side exterior mirror assembly than said driver-side display portion; wherein said driver-side display portion of said video display displays video images derived from driver-side image data captured by said driver-side camera and does not display video images derived from any passenger-side image data captured by said passenger-side camera; and wherein said passenger-side display portion of said video display displays video images derived from passenger-side image data captured by said passenger-side camera and does not display video images derived from any driver-side image data captured by said driver-side camera. 2. The vehicular vision system of claim 1 , wherein said driver-side display portion comprises a first video screen and said passenger-side display portion comprises a separate second video screen. 3. The vehicular vision system of claim 1 , wherein said driver-side camera principally views the blind spot region adjacent the driver side of the equipped vehicle when said driver-side mirror reflective element is adjusted by the driver via said driver-side driver-operable actuator to provide the driver with the driver's desired rearward side view of rear approaching traffic in
