Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method of providing location services at a location server for a venue includes: receiving a request for location service for one or more mobile devices, where the request for location service comprises a trigger condition and at least one of a group condition or a persistence condition; determining the occurrence of the trigger condition and at least one of the group condition or the persistence condition; and sending a response, where the response indicates the occurrence of the trigger condition and at least one of the group condition or the persistence condition.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of providing location services at a location server, the method comprising: receiving a request for location service for a plurality of mobile devices, wherein the request for location service comprises a trigger condition, a group condition, and a persistence condition, wherein the trigger condition comprises a target area and an event related to the target area wherein the group condition comprises an indication of a portion of the plurality of mobile devices to meet the trigger condition before the occurrence of the trigger condition will be reported, and wherein the persistence condition comprises a threshold time period for persistence of the trigger condition by the portion of the plurality of mobile devices; determining the occurrence of the trigger condition, the group condition, and the persistence condition; and sending a response, wherein the response indicates the occurrence of the trigger condition, the group condition, and the persistence condition. 2. The method of claim 1 , the trigger condition combined with the group condition comprises the portion of the plurality of mobile devices remaining within the target area or remaining outside the target area. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the portion of the plurality of mobile devices is indicated by the group condition and comprises one of a minimum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, a maximum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, or all of the plurality of mobile devices. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the minimum quantity or the maximum quantity, whichever is used, is either an integer number or a percentage of the plurality of mobile devices. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the response comprises at least one of an identity or a geographic location for at least one mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request for location service and the response comprise messages for the Mobile Location Protocol (MLP) of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the trigger condition comprises a first trigger condition and a second trigger condition, and the persistence condition comprises a first persistence condition associated with the first trigger condition and a second persistence condition associated with the second trigger condition. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the group condition identifies one or more particular mobile devices in the portion of the plurality of mobile devices. 9. A location server comprising: a transceiver configured to send communications to, and receive communications from, a location services client; and a processor communicatively coupled to the transceiver and configured to: receive, from the location services client through the transceiver, a request for location service for a plurality of mobile devices, wherein the request for location service comprises a trigger condition, a group condition, and a persistence condition, wherein the trigger condition comprises a target area and an event related to the target area, wherein the group condition comprises an indication of a portion of the plurality of mobile devices that are required to meet the trigger condition before the occurrence of the trigger condition will be reported, and wherein the persistence condition comprises a threshold time period for persistence of the trigger condition by the portion of the plurality of mobile devices; determine the occurrence of the trigger condition, the group condition, and the persistence condition; and send a response toward the location services client through the transceiver, wherein the response indicates the occurrence of the trigger condition, the group condition, and the persistence condition. 10. The location server of claim 9 , wherein the trigger condition combined with the group condition comprises the portion of the plurality of mobile devices remaining within the target area or remaining outside the target area. 11. The location server of claim 10 , wherein the portion of the plurality of mobile devices is indicated by the group condition and comprises one of a minimum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, a maximum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, or all of the plurality of mobile devices. 12. The location server of claim 11 , wherein the minimum quantity or the maximum quantity, whichever is used, is either an integer number or a percentage of the plurality of mobile devices. 13. The location server of claim 9 , wherein the response comprises at least one of an identity and a geographic location for at least one mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices. 14. The location server of claim 9 , wherein the request for location service and the response comprise messages for the Mobile Location Protocol (MLP) of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). 15. The location server of claim 9 , wherein: the trigger condition comprises a first trigger condition and a second trigger condition, and the persistence condition comprises a first persistence condition associated with the first trigger condition and a second persistence condition associated with the second trigger condition. 16. A method of providing location services at a location services client, the method comprising: sending a request for location service for a plurality of mobile devices, wherein the request for location service comprises a trigger condition, a group condition, and a persistence condition, wherein the trigger condition comprises a target area and an event related to the target area wherein the group condition comprises an indication of a portion of the plurality of mobile devices that are required to meet the trigger condition before the occurrence of the trigger condition will be reported, and wherein the persistence condition comprises a threshold time period for persistence of the trigger condition by the portion of the plurality of mobile devices; receiving a response to the request, wherein the response indicates the occurrence of the trigger condition, the group condition, and the persistence condition; and providing a location service using the response. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the trigger condition combined with the group condition comprises a portion of the plurality of mobile devices remaining within the target area or remaining outside the target area. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the portion of the plurality of mobile devices is indicated by the group condition and comprises one of a minimum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, a maximum quantity of the plurality of mobile devices, or all of the plurality of mobile devices. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the minimum quantity or the maximum quantity, whichever is used, is either an integer number or a percentage of the plurality of mobile devices. 20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the response comprises at least one of an identity and a geographic location for at least one mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices. 21. The method of claim 16 , wherein the location services client is a location based services application server. 22. The method of claim 16 , wherein the request for location service and the response comprise messages for the Mobile Location Protocol (MLP) of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). 23. The method of claim 16 , wherein: the trigger condition comprises a first trigger condition and a second trigger condition, an
