Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Various example embodiments of a non-pneumatic tire, and methods for making the same, are disclosed. In one embodiment, a non-pneumatic tire is provided, the non-pneumatic tire comprising: a tread; at least one support ring, wherein the at least one support ring and the tread are concentric; at least one base element oriented between the tread and the at least one support ring; and a hub.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A non-pneumatic tire, comprising: a tread; a hub; a support ring, wherein the support ring and the tread are concentric; at least one base element oriented between one or more of the tread and the support ring and the support ring and the hub; and at least one ply strip oriented between one or more of the support ring and the tread and the support ring and the hub. 2. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the tread is molded in a substantially planar orientation. 3. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element is connected to at least one of the tread and the at least one support ring by at least one of mechanical clips, adhesives, and crosslinking. 4. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element includes at least one of a cylindrical shape, a conical shape, a frustrum shape, a square cone shape, a rectangular cone shape, an ellipsoid shape, a barrel shape, a trapezoidal shape, a cubical shape, a cuboid shape, a regular polygonal shape, and an irregular polygonal shape. 5. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element is elongated and oriented in at least one of a tire circumferential direction and a tire axial direction. 6. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element is inclined relative to the tire axial direction. 7. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element is solid. 8. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base element is at least partially hollow. 9. A non-pneumatic tire, comprising: a tread; a hub; a plurality of support rings, including at least a radially outer support ring and a radially inner support ring, wherein the plurality of support rings and the tread are concentric; and at least one ply strip oriented between one or more of: the tread and the radially outer support ring, the radially outer support ring and the radially inner support ring, and the radially inner support ring and the hub. 10. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , wherein the tread is molded in a substantially planar orientation. 11. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , wherein the at least one ply strip is substantially planar. 12. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , wherein the at least one ply strip is connected to at least one of the tread and the at least one support ring by at least one of mechanical clips, adhesives, and crosslinking. 13. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , further comprising at least one base element oriented between the tread and the at least one support ring. 14. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 13 , wherein the at least one base element is connected to at least one of the tread and the at least one support ring by at least one of mechanical clips, adhesives, and crosslinking. 15. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 13 , wherein the at least one base element includes at least one of a cylindrical shape, a conical shape, a frustrum shape, a square cone shape, a rectangular cone shape, an ellipsoid shape, a barrel shape, a trapezoidal shape, a cubical shape, a cuboid shape, a regular polygonal shape, and an irregular polygonal shape. 16. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 13 , wherein the at least one base element is elongated and oriented in at least one of a tire circumferential direction and a tire axial direction. 17. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 13 , wherein the at least one base element is inclined relative to the tire axial direction. 18. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , wherein the at least one ply strip is elongated and oriented in at least one of the tire circumferential direction and the tire axial direction. 19. The non-pneumatic tire of claim 9 , wherein the at least one ply strip is inclined relative to the tire axial direction.
