Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An implement coupler including an electrical generator configured to generate electric power in response to a mechanical force provided by a power takeoff of a work vehicle. The implement coupler includes a support frame and an adjustment mechanism operatively connected to the support frame, wherein the adjustment mechanism is configured to adjust the position of the support frame with respect to the work vehicle. The generator is located on the support frame and is operatively connected to the power takeoff. The implement coupler further includes a drive shaft connected to the power takeoff and to the generator, an electrical coupler electrically coupled to the generator to provide access to the generated electrical power wherein the electrical coupler includes an output configured to provide the generated electrical power, and a line coupler including a connector configured to couple to source of material and to deliver the material.

The invention claimed is: 1. An implement coupler for a work vehicle including a power takeoff configured to provide a mechanical force, the implement coupler comprising: a support frame; an adjustment mechanism operatively connected to the support frame, wherein the adjustment mechanism is configured to adjust the position of the support frame with respect to the work vehicle; and a first generator operatively connected to and supported by the support frame, wherein the generator is configured to generate electrical power based on the mechanical force provided by the power takeoff. 2. The implement coupler of claim 1 including an input drive operatively connected to the generator and the power takeoff, wherein movement of the input drive responsive to the power takeoff mechanical force causes the generator to generate the electrical power. 3. The implement coupler of claim 2 further comprising an electrical coupler operatively connected to the support frame and electrically coupled to the generator, wherein the electrical coupler includes an output configured to provide access to the generated electrical power. 4. The implement coupler of claim 3 further comprising a line coupler operatively connected to the support frame, wherein the line coupler includes a connector configured to couple to a delivery line configured to deliver one of a gas and a liquid. 5. The implement coupler of claim 2 further comprising a drive shaft operatively connected to the input drive and to the generator, wherein the drive shaft is configured to transfer the mechanical force provided by the power takeoff to the generator. 6. The implement coupler of claim 5 further comprising a second generator operatively connected to and supported by the support frame, wherein the second generator is configured to generate electrical power based on the mechanical force provided by the drive shaft. 7. The implement coupler of claim 6 further comprising a gear assembly operatively connected to the drive shaft, the first generator, and the second generator, wherein the gear assembly drives each of the first generator and the second generator. 8. The implement coupler of claim 7 wherein the gear assembly includes a drive gear, a first driven gear coupled to the first generator, and a second driven gear coupled to the second generator. 9. The implement coupler of claim 7 wherein the gear assembly is configured to drive the first generator at a first speed and the second generator at a second speed such the electrical power generated by the first generator is different than the electrical power generated by the second generator. 10. The implement coupler of claim 7 where in the first generator generates a first electrical power and the second generator generates a second electrical power, wherein the first electrical power and the second electrical power are the same electrical power or a different electrical power. 11. A tractor comprising: an engine; a power takeoff operatively connected to the engine, wherein the engine is configured to drive the power takeoff to provide a mechanical force; and a positionable implement coupler including an input drive operatively connected to the power takeoff and a first generator operatively connected to the input drive, wherein the first generator is configured to generate electrical power based on the mechanical force provided by the power takeoff. 12. The tractor of claim 11 further comprising a housing fixedly coupled to the tractor and an adjustment mechanism operatively connected to the housing to a support frame of the positionable implement coupler, wherein the support frame supports the first generator and the adjustment mechanism is configured to adjust the position of the support frame with respect to the housing. 13. The tractor of claim 12 further comprising an input drive fixedly coupled to the housing and operatively connected to the power takeoff, wherein the input drive is operatively connected to the generator and movement of the power takeoff causes the generator to generate electric power. 14. The tractor of claim 13 further comprising a drive shaft operatively connected to the input drive and to the generator, wherein movement of the power takeoff rotates the drive shaft which causes the generator to generate electric power. 15. The tractor of claim 14 wherein the implement coupler further comprises a gear assembly operatively connected to the drive shaft and to the first generator. 16. The tractor of claim 15 wherein the implement coupler further comprises a second generator and the gear assembly is operatively connected to both the first generator and the second generator, wherein the gear assembly drives each of the first generator and the second generator. 17. The tractor of claim 12 wherein the positionable implement coupler further comprises an electrical coupler operatively connected to the support frame and electrically coupled to the generator, wherein the electrical coupler includes an output configured to provide the generated electrical power. 18. The tractor of claim 17 wherein the positionable implement coupler further comprises a line coupler operatively connected to the support frame, wherein the line coupler includes a connector configured to couple to a delivery line configured to deliver one of a gas and a liquid. 19. A method of providing electrical power to a work implement coupled to a tractor having a power takeoff configured to provide mechanical power, the method comprising: operatively connecting a three point hitch implement coupler to the tractor, wherein a position of the three point hitch implement coupler is adjustable with respect to the tractor; operatively connecting the power takeoff to the three point hitch implement coupler; generating electrical power at the three point hitch implement coupler in response to the mechanical power provided by the power takeoff. 20. The method of claim 19 wherein the generating step further comprises generating electrical power at the three point hitch implement coupler with an electrical generator fixedly coupled to the three point hitch implement coupler, such that adjustment of the position of the three point hitch implement coupler adjusts the position of the electrical generator with respect to the tractor.
