Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for adjusting the costs of assets. A method includes receiving consumption data via a first channel of a plurality of channels. The consumption data indicates an amount of consumption of an asset. The method also includes determining whether one or more predetermined thresholds are satisfied based on the consumption data. The method further includes adjusting a cost of the asset in response to determining that the consumption data satisfies the one or more predetermined thresholds. The method further includes publishing, by a computer processing device, one or more messages indicating an adjusted cost of the asset to one or more client devices via a second channel of the plurality of channels.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: receiving consumption data via a first channel of a plurality of channels of a publish-subscribe (“PubSub”) system, wherein the consumption data indicates an amount of consumption of an asset; determining whether one or more predetermined thresholds are satisfied based on the consumption data; adjusting a cost of the asset in response to determining that the consumption data satisfies the one or more predetermined thresholds; and publishing, by a computer processing device, one or more messages indicating an adjusted cost of the asset to one or more client devices via a second channel of the plurality of channels of the PubSub system. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the cost of the asset comprises one or more of: decreasing the cost of the asset; or increasing the cost of the asset. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cost of the asset is adjusted to incentivize consumption of the asset or to disincentivize consumption of the asset. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more predetermined thresholds comprise a supply threshold that indicates whether additional quantities of the asset should be obtained. 5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising: publishing a message via a third channel of the plurality of channels indicating that additional quantities of the asset should be obtained. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more predetermined thresholds comprise an expiration threshold that indicates a time when the asset should no longer be consumed. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more predetermined thresholds comprise a rate threshold that indicates a rate at which the asset has been consumed. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the consumption data further indicates a second amount of consumption of a second asset; and the asset is constructed using the second asset. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more predetermined thresholds comprise a consumption threshold that indicates a number of the asset that has been consumed. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption data is published to the first channel by a transaction component and wherein the transaction component allows one or more users to consume the asset. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption data is published to the first channel by a tracking component associated with the asset. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more client devices are associated with one or more users that are in a vicinity of a location where the asset is located. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more client devices comprise one or more displays that are configured to present the adjusted cost to one or more users. 14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, via a third channel of the plurality of channels, a request to reserve a quantity of the asset at the adjusted cost; and reserving the quantity of the asset at the adjusted cost. 15. An apparatus, comprising: a computer processing device to: receive consumption data via a first channel of a plurality of channels of a publish-subscribe (“PubSub”) system, wherein the consumption data indicates an amount of consumption of an asset; determine whether one or more predetermined thresholds are satisfied based on the consumption data; adjust a cost of the asset in response to determining that the consumption data satisfies the one or more predetermined thresholds; and publish one or more messages indicating an adjusted cost of the asset to one or more client devices via a second channel of the plurality of channels of the PubSub system. 16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the consumption data is published to the first channel by a transaction component and wherein the transaction component allows one or more users to consume the asset. 17. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the consumption data is published to the first channel by a tracking component associated with the asset. 18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more client devices are associated with users that are in a vicinity of a location where the asset is located. 19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more client devices comprise one or more displays that are configured to present the adjusted cost to one or more users. 20. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a computer processing device, cause the computer processing device to: receive consumption data via a first channel of a plurality of channels of a publish-subscribe (“PubSub”) system, wherein the consumption data indicates an amount of consumption of an asset; determine whether one or more predetermined thresholds are satisfied based on the consumption data; adjust a cost of the asset in response to determining that the consumption data satisfies the one or more predetermined thresholds; and publish, by the computer processing device, one or more messages indicating an adjusted cost of the asset to one or more client devices via a second channel of the plurality of channels of the PubSub system.
