I claim: 1. A talar implant comprising: an articulation component with an articulating surface extending upwardly from a first plane to an apex and then downwardly toward the plane, and configured to articulate with a tibial component, the articulation component defining a first fastener receiving bore; a base portion extending along the first plane and including a fin extending from the base portion away from the plane for insertion into the bone, the base portion including a first coupling member and a second fastener receiving bore, the second fastener receiving bore defining a longitudinal axis extending along the first plane and configured to align with the first fastener receiving bore; a fastener configured to be received within the first fastener receiving bore and the second fastener receiving bore to rigidly secure the base portion and the articulation component; and a distal portion for implanting in a bone, the distal portion having a second coupling member configured to be rigidly frictionally coupled with the first coupling member at any angular position selected from a range of angular positions within a second plane perpendicular to the first plane upon coupling of the first coupling member and the second coupling member. 2. The talar implant of claim 1 , wherein when the talar implant is implanted, the second plane is an anterior/posterior plane. 3. The talar implant of claim 2 , wherein the distal portion is further configured to be rigidly coupled with respect to the first plane at any angular position selected from a range of angular positions within a third plane perpendicular to the first plane. 4. The talar implant of claim 1 , wherein: the first coupling member includes a bore having a first diameter, and the second coupling member includes a head having a second diameter, and the second diameter is larger than the first diameter, such that insertion alone of the head into the bore produces a rigid friction coupling sufficient for a permanent talar implant. 5. The talar implant of claim 4 , wherein: the distal portion further includes a stem and a neck, the distal portion narrowing from the stem to the neck; and the head is spaced apart from the stem by the neck. 6. The talar implant of claim 5 , wherein the head is spherical and the bore is cylindrical. 7. The talar implant of claim 1 , wherein: the base portion further includes a third coupling member; and the articulating component comprises a fourth coupling member configured to removably couple with the third coupling member. 8. The talar implant of claim 1 , wherein: the first fastener receiving bore opens to a posterior surface portion of the articulation component. 9. The talar implant of claim 8 , wherein: the articulation component includes a first dovetail coupling portion; and the base portion includes a second dovetail coupling portion configured to couple with the first dovetail coupling portion in a dovetail coupling. 10. The talar implant of claim 9 , wherein: the second dovetail coupling portion is configured to couple with the first dovetail coupling portion in a dovetail coupling by movement along the first plane. 11. The talar implant of claim 10 , wherein: the second dovetail coupling portion includes an upwardly extending guide; the second fastener receiving bore is defined in the guide; and the articulation component defines a channel above the first dovetail coupling portion, the channel sized to receive the upwardly extending guide, and further defines a bore extending between the first fastener receiving bore and the channel and sized to allow a portion of the fastener to pass therethrough. 12. A talar implant kit comprising: a plurality of articulation components, each of the plurality of articulation components having a surface configured to articulate with a tibial prosthetic device, and a first bore; a plurality of base members, each base member including a fin extending from the base portion for insertion into the bone and configured to couple with each of the plurality of articulation components and including a first coupling member and a second bore, the second bore configured to align with the first bore when one of the plurality of articulation components is coupled with one of the plurality of base members the first coupling member of each of the plurality of base members comprises a bore having a first diameter; and the second coupling member of each of the plurality of distal members comprises a spherical head having a second diameter, the second diameter larger than the first diameter, such that insertion alone of the spherical head of any of the second coupling members into the bore produces a rigid friction coupling sufficient for a permanent talar implant, wherein each fin of each base member is located adjacent and aligned with the bore of the coupling member; a plurality of fasteners, each of the plurality of fasteners configured to extend between the first bore and the second bore for securing the one of the plurality of articulation components with the one of the plurality of base members; and a plurality of distal members, each distal member including a second coupling member configured to rigidly frictionally couple with each of the first coupling members upon insertion of each of the first coupling members within each of the second coupling members or upon insertion of each of the second coupling members within each of the first coupling members, each of the first coupling members and the second coupling members configured for rigid frictional coupling at any angular position within a cone having a vertex at the first coupler.
