A method for providing cognitive insight via a cognitive information processing system comprising: encapsulating an operation for providing a desired cognitive insight; and, applying the operation to a target cognitive graph to generate a cognitive insight.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for providing cognitive insight via a cognitive information processing system environment, the cognitive information processing system environment comprising a cognitive inference and learning system and a cognitive application, comprising: receiving data from a plurality of data sources, the plurality of data sources comprising a social data source stored in a social data repository, public data source stored in a public data repository, a licensed data source stored in a licensed data repository and a proprietary data source stored in a proprietary data repository; encapsulating an operation for providing a desired cognitive insight via an insight engine; and, applying the operation to a target cognitive graph to generate a cognitive insight based upon the operation, the target cognitive graph being stored within a repository of cognitive graphs, the target cognitive graph providing a representation of expert knowledge, associated with individuals and groups over a period of time, to depict relationships between people, places and things, the target cognitive graph providing a machine-readable formalism for knowledge representation, the cognitive inference and learning system executing on a hardware processor of an information processing system, the information processing system being deterministic, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform executing on the information processing system, the cognitive platform and the information processing system performing a cognitive computing function, the cognitive platform comprising a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising the insight engine, the insight engine processing streams of data from the plurality of data sources, the cognitive inference and learning system using the insight engine to generate a plurality of cognitive insights; and, providing the plurality of cognitive insights generated by the insight engine to a destination, the destination comprising the cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive insights, the cognitive application being a cloud-based application. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: providing detailed information relating to a predetermined topic based upon the operation being applied to the target cognitive graph. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: performing predictive operations to provide insight into a next occurrence for a predetermined topic based upon the operation being applied to the target cognitive graph. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: performing ranking and recommendation operations to provide a user with prioritized recommendations associated with the cognitive insight. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: invoking an insight agent, the insight agent creating a visual data story highlighting user-specific insights, relationships and recommendations. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein: the plurality of data sources comprise platform data; and, the insight agent communicates with the platform data. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein: the platform data comprises a plurality of data models; and, the insight agent communicates with the plurality of data models within the platform data. 8. A method for providing cognitive insights comprising: receiving data from the plurality of data sources, the plurality of data sources comprising a public data source stored in a public data repository and a private data source stored in a private data repository, the private data repository being maintained within a private network environment; processing data from a plurality of data sources to provide cognitively processed insights via a first cognitive inference and learning system and a second cognitive inference and learning system, the processing the data encapsulating an operation for providing a cognitive insight, the first cognitive inference and learning system executing on an information processing system, the first cognitive inference and learning system and the information processing system providing a cognitive computing function, the first cognitive inference and learning system comprising a hosted cognitive platform and the public data repository, the hosted cognitive platform comprising a hosted cognitive engine, the hosted cognitive engine comprising a hosted insight engine, the hosted insight engine processing data from the public data repository, the second cognitive inference and learning system executing on a private information processing system contained within the private network environment, the second cognitive inference and learning system and the private information processing system providing a second cognitive computing function, the second cognitive inference and learning system comprising a private cognitive platform and the private data repository, the private cognitive platform comprising a private cognitive engine, the private cognitive engine comprising a private insight engine, the private insight engine processing data from the private data repository; applying the operation to a target cognitive graph to generate cognitively processed insights based upon the operation; and, providing the cognitively processed insights to a destination, the destination comprising a private cognitive application, the private cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitively processed insights within the private network environment; and wherein the first cognitive inference and learning system and the second cognitive inference and learning system provide a hybrid cloud infrastructure. 9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: providing detailed information relating to a predetermined topic based upon the operation being applied to the target cognitive graph. 10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: performing predictive operations to provide insight into a next occurrence for a predetermined topic based upon the operation being applied to the target cognitive graph. 11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: performing ranking and recommendation operations to provide a user with prioritized recommendations associated with the cognitive insight. 12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: invoking a hosted insight agent and a private insight agent, at least one of the hosted insight agent and the private insight agent creating a visual data story highlighting user-specific insights, relationships and recommendations. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein: the plurality of data sources comprise hosted platform data and private platform data; the hosted insight agent communicates with the hosted platform data; and, the private insight agent communicates with the private platform data. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein: the hosted platform data comprises a plurality of hosted data models; the private platform data comprises a plurality of private data models; the hosted insight agent communicates with the plurality of hosted data models within the hosted platform data; and, the private insight agent communicates with the plurality of private data models within the private platform data.
