Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and systems are provided for defining and determining a formal and verifiable mobile document image quality and usability (MDIQU) standard, or Standard for short. The Standard ensures that a mobile image can be used in an appropriate mobile document processing application, for example an application for mobile check deposit. In order to quantify the usability, the Standard establishes 5 quality and usability grades. A mobile image capture device can capture images. A mobile device can receive information associated with one or more image quality assurance (IQA) criteria; evaluating the images to select an image satisfying an image quality criteria based on the received information; and in response to the image satisfying the image quality score, sending the selected image to determine a set of image quality assurance (IQA) scores.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to: capture images using a mobile image capture device; receive information associated with one or more image quality assurance (IQA) criteria; determine at least one image quality score for each of the images based on the received information; select an image satisfying an image quality criteria based on the at least one image quality score; send the selected image to determine a set of image quality assurance (IQA) scores; and receive an indication whether the selected image satisfies a predetermined standard based on a compound IQA score from a subset of strongly correlated IQA scores from the set of IQA scores associated with the selected image, wherein the subset of strongly correlated IQA scores is associated with a common image defect. 2. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein to satisfy an image quality criteria, content is at least extractable from the selected image based on the received information. 3. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further to determine a false selection in response to an IQA score associated with the selected image of the set of images indicated as not satisfying the predetermined standard. 4. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the processor is further to calculate a false selection rate of the images. 5. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein in response to the images failing to satisfy the image quality criteria; rejecting the images. 6. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising: in response to the indication that the selected image does not satisfy the predetermined standard, evaluate the images to select another image of satisfying the image quality criteria based on the determined at least one image quality score for each of the images. 7. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the set of IQA scores includes one or more of: an out-of-focus (OOF) score, a shadow score, a small-image-size score, a view-skew score, a plain-skew score, a warpage score, a low-internal-contrast score, a reflection score, a cut-corners score, a cut-sides score, a busy-background score, and a low-external-contrast score. 8. A system for assessing mobile image qualities of a document, comprising: an image capture device; a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions for assessing qualities of mobile images of documents, wherein the processor is coupled to the image capture device is configured to: capture images using the image capture device; receive information associated with one or more image quality assurance (IQA) criteria; determine at least one image quality score for each of the images based on the received information; select an image satisfying an image quality criteria based on the at least one image quality score; send the selected image to determine a set of image quality assurance (IQA) scores; and receive an indication whether the selected image satisfies a predetermined standard based on a compound IQA score from a subset of strongly correlated IQA scores from the set of IQA scores associated with the selected image, wherein the subset of strongly correlated IQA scores is associated with a common image defect. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein to satisfy an image quality criteria, content is at least extractable from the selected image based on the received information. 10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further to determine a false selection in response to an IQA score associated with the selected image of the images indicated as not satisfying the predetermined standard. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further to calculate a false selection rate of the images. 12. The system of claim 8 , wherein in response to the images failing to satisfy the image quality criteria; rejecting the images. 13. The system of claim 8 , further comprising: in response to the indication that the selected image does not satisfy the predetermined standard, evaluate the images to select another image of satisfying the image quality criteria based on the determined at least one image quality score for each of the images. 14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the subset of strongly correlated IQA scores is associated with a common image defect. 15. A method comprising: capturing images using a mobile image capture device; receiving information associated with one or more image quality assurance (IQA) criteria; determining at least one image quality score for each of the images based on the received information; selecting an image satisfying an image quality criteria based on the at least one image quality score; sending the selected image to determine a set of image quality assurance (IQA) scores; and receiving an indication whether the selected image satisfies a predetermined standard based on a compound IQA score from a subset of strongly correlated IQA scores from the set of IQA scores associated with the selected image, wherein the subset of strongly correlated IQA scores is associated with a common image defect. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein to satisfy an image quality criteria, content is at least extractable from the selected image based on the received information. 17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising: in response to the indication that the selected image does not satisfy the predetermined standard, evaluate the images to select another image of satisfying the image quality criteria based on the determined at least one image quality score for each of the images.
