Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Three-dimensional (3D) object manufacturing systems and methods are operable to manufacture printed 3D objects corresponding to user-selected physical objects of interest shown in a media content event that have been viewed by a user, wherein at least one 3D printer that is accessible by the user of the media device is operable to manufacture the printed 3D object corresponding to the viewed physical object of interest.

The invention claimed is: 1. A system of manufacturing printed 3D objects corresponding to physical objects of interest shown in a media content event that have been viewed by a user, wherein at least one three dimensional (3D) printer that is accessible by the user of a media device is operable to manufacture the printed 3D objects, the system comprising: the media device that is one of a plurality of media devices, each of the plurality of media devices comprising: a presentation device interface that communicates the media content event to a display, wherein the media content event includes video content that presents images of the physical object of interest that is presented on the display; at least one tuner that receives media content stream that has the media content event, wherein the media content event includes a trigger embedded in the media content stream of the media content event at a predefined location, wherein a predefined location of the trigger corresponds to a time of presentation of an image of a scene of the media content event that is showing a physical object of interest to the user, wherein the trigger includes information corresponding to an icon or a visual graphic element that is associated with a presented physical object currently shown in the scene of the media content event, wherein the media device is further operable to present the icon or the visual graphic element on the display concurrent with presentation of the scene of the media content event that shows the physical object of interest, wherein the icon or the visual graphic element presents information to the user that identifies the physical object of interest; a remote interface that receives an initial user request communicated from a remote control, wherein the initial user request includes information to identify the physical object of interest that has been viewed by the user of the media device while the user is viewing presentation of the media content event, and wherein the initial user request communicated from the remote control in response to a user actuation of at least one controller of the remote control that is associated with selection of the presented icon or the visual graphic element; and a communication network interface that communicatively couples the media device to a communication system, wherein the media device communicates the initial user request to a remote 3D model site via the communication system; and the remote three dimensional (3D) model site, wherein the remote 3D model site is communicatively coupled to the media device via the communication system, the remote 3D model site comprising: a physical object identification system that identifies the physical object of interest from the information based on the received initial user request from the media device; and a 3D printable model data storage medium that stores a plurality of 3D model data that each correspond to one of a plurality of different physical objects and one of the plurality of types of 3D printers, wherein the remote 3D model site is operable to identify at least one 3D printable model that is stored in the 3D printable model data storage medium based on the identified physical object of interest that can be used to manufacture a printed 3D object corresponding to the identified physical object of interest viewed by the user of the media device. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the identified at least one 3D printable model is definable by 3D printable model data that can be used by the at least one 3D printer that is accessibly by the user to manufacture the printed 3D object corresponding to the viewed physical object of interest. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the initial user request includes information to identify at least one of the media device or to identify the user viewing the media content event being presented by the media device; wherein the remote 3D model site is further operable to identify, based on the identified at least one of the media device or the user, a plurality of 3D printers that are accessible by the user to manufacture the printed 3D object, wherein the remote 3D model site is further operable to identify a plurality of different format 3D printable models that correspond to the identified physical object of interest that has been viewed by the user in the presented media content event, and wherein each one of the plurality of different format 3D printable models uniquely correspond to one of the identified plurality of 3D printers that are accessible by the user. 4. The system of claim 3 , wherein information corresponding to the plurality of different format 3D printable models is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the media device, wherein media device presents information to the user that identifies the plurality of different format 3D printable models and the corresponding one of the plurality of 3D printers that are accessible by the user, wherein the media device is operable to receive a user selection of a 3D printable model from one of the plurality of different format 3D printable models, and wherein 3D printable model data corresponding to the user selected one of the plurality of different format 3D printable models is communicated to the 3D printer that is associated with the selected 3D printable model. 5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the 3D printable model data is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the media device, wherein the 3D printable model data is communicated from the media device to the associated 3D printer at a later time when the user wishes to manufacture the printed 3D object, and wherein the associated 3D printer manufactures the printed 3D object using the received 3D printable model data. 6. The system of claim 4 , wherein information corresponding to the user selected 3D printable model is communicated from the media device to the remote 3D model site, wherein the 3D printable model data associated with the user selected 3D printable model is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the associated 3D printer, and wherein the associated 3D printer manufactures the printed 3D object using the received 3D printable model data. 7. The system of claim 3 , wherein information corresponding to the plurality of different format 3D printable models is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the media device, wherein media device presents information to the user that identifies the plurality of different format 3D printable models and the corresponding one of the plurality of 3D printers that are accessible by the user, wherein the media device is operable to receive a user selection of a 3D printer from the plurality of 3D printers that are accessible by the user, and wherein 3D printable model data corresponding to the 3D printable model associated with the user selected 3D printer is communicated to the user selected 3D printer. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the 3D printable model data associated with the user selected 3D printer is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the media device, wherein the 3D printable model data is communicated from the media device to the user selected 3D printer at a later time when the user wishes to manufacture the printed 3D object, and wherein the user selected 3D printer manufactures the printed 3D object using the received 3D printable model data. 9. The system of claim 7 , wherein information corresponding to the user selected 3D printer is communicated from the media device to the remote 3D model site, wherein the 3D printable model data associated with the user selected 3D printer is communicated from the remote 3D model site to the associated
