Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A variety of configurations of implant management devices are provided. The configurations provide different combinations of features for maintaining a location of an implant with respect to the device and managing filaments of the implant. One exemplary embodiment of a device includes a generally rectangular-shaped body having an implantable body retainer, an opening disposed a distance apart from the retainer and configured to receive a ligament graft therein, and a fold extending across the body and intersecting the opening. Folding one end of the body towards a bottom surface of the body along the fold can form a filament loop engaging region to hold in tension a filament loop extending from the implant. Additional filament(s) associated with the implant can be managed by various filament retention features. Methods for preparing a ligament graft for implantation by relying upon indicia formed on a surface of the device body are also provided.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A surgical implant management device, comprising: a body having a first end, a second end, opposed walls extending between the first and second ends, a top side, and a bottom side, the body further comprising: a filament loop engaging region that includes a pair of opposed prongs disposed along the second end, the filament loop engaging region being configured to receive one or more filament loops coupled to an implantable body associated with the body and maintain a position of the one or more filament loops with respect to the body and the implantable body when the one or more filament loops are engaged by the filament loop engaging region; and an opening disposed more proximate to the second end than the first end, the opening being at least partially defined by the pair of opposed prongs, and the opening being configured to receive a ligament graft to be coupled to the one or more filament loops such that the ligament graft is received through the opening, and through an opening formed by the one or more filament loops received by the filament loop engaging region. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the opening extends through the second end. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein a longitudinal axis extending from the first end to the second end, approximately parallel to the opposed walls, substantially bisects the opening. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein respective outward-facing surfaces of the pair of opposed prongs terminate at a location along the outward-facing surfaces that is most proximate to the first end, the outward-facing surfaces at the most-proximate location forming a loop-engagement surface configured to have one or more filament loops associated therewith. 5. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a pair of opposed tabs formed from a portion of the body and extending away from the top side of the body, the tabs being configured to hold one or more filament limbs extending from an opposite side of an implantable body from which the one or more filament loops extend. 6. The device of claim 5 , wherein each tab of the pair of opposed tabs further comprises a first fold along which the respective tab is configured to be moved away from the top side of the body, the respective first folds being opposed to each other. 7. The device of claim 6 , wherein each tab of the pair of opposed tabs further comprises: a second fold that is substantially parallel to the first fold; and a filament receiving region disposed between the first and second folds of the respective opposed tabs, the filament receiving regions being configured to be in contact with one or more filament limbs extending from an implantable body when the tabs are holding the one or more filament limbs extending from the implantable body. 8. The device of claim 7 , wherein each tab of the pair of opposed tabs further comprises an end portion disposed on an opposite side of the second fold from the filament receiving region and including a terminal end of the respective tab, the end portions being configured such that a plane extending substantially through a surface area of the end portion is substantially parallel to a plane extending substantially through the top side of the body that is not part of the pair of opposed tabs. 9. The device of claim 5 , wherein a longitudinal axis of the pair of opposed tabs extending from the first end to the second end that substantially bisects the pair of opposed tabs is offset from a central longitudinal axis that extends from first end to the second end that substantially bisects the body. 10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the longitudinal axis of the pair of opposed tabs is substantially parallel to the central longitudinal axis. 11. The device of claim 5 , further comprising a third tab formed from a portion of the body and configured to receive one or more filament limbs extending from an implantable body in addition to the pair of opposed tabs receiving the one or more filament limbs extending from the implantable body. 12. The device of claim 5 , further comprising: an implantable body; and one or more filament loops coupled to the implantable body, the one or more filament loops having at least one limb extending therefrom, wherein the one or more filament loops are held in tension by the filament loop engaging region, the at least one limb is coupled to the pair of opposed tabs, and at least one of the implantable body and a portion of the one or more filament loops is disposed between an implantable body retainer positioned between the first and second ends and the top side of the body, the implantable body retainer being configured to retain the implantable body on the top side of the body. 13. The device of claim 12 , further comprising at least one of a shuttle filament and a toggle filament coupled to the implantable body, the at least one of the shuttle filament and the toggle filament being coupled to the pair of opposed tabs. 14. The device of claim 1 , further comprising an implantable body retainer positioned between the first and second ends and configured to retain the implantable body on the top side of the body. 15. The device of claim 1 , wherein a longitudinal axis extending from the first end to the second end, approximately parallel to the opposed walls, and which substantially bisects the opening, also intersects a substantial center of the implantable body retainer. 16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the implantable body retainer further comprises a tab formed from a portion of the body and configured to extend away from one of the top or bottom sides. 17. The device of claim 1 , wherein the pair of opposed prongs are configured to hold the one or more filament loops in alignment. 18. The device of claim 17 , wherein the one or more filament loops frame the opening configured to receive the ligament graft. 19. A surgical implant management device, comprising: a body having a first end, a second end, opposed walls extending between the first and second ends, a top side, and a bottom side, the body further comprising: a pair of opposed tabs extending from the body formed from a portion of the body and extending away from the top side of the body to form a filament receiving region of the opposed tabs, at least one tab of the pair of opposed tabs being disposed more proximate to the first end than the second end of the body and the tabs being configured to hold one or more filament limbs extending from an implantable body associated with the body by way of the one or more filament limbs being wrapped around the filament receiving region; and a filament loop engaging region configured to receive one or more filament loops extending from an opposite side of the implantable body from which the one or more filament limbs extend, the filament loop engaging region being configured to retain the implantable body at a desired location with respect to the implantable body; and an opening formed in the body, the opening being proximate to the filament loop engaging region and configured to receive a ligament graft to be coupled to the one or more filament loops such that the ligament graft is received through the opening, and through an opening of the one or more filament loops received by the filament loop engaging region. 20. The device of claim 19 , wherein each tab of the pair of opposed tabs further comprises a first fold along which the respective tab is configured to be moved away from the top side of the body, the respective first folds being oppos
