Official abstract text for this publication.
A method and apparatus for requesting and releasing resources for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and/or Node B. The WTRU may transmit a channel acquisition request to the Node B and receive a resource allocation from the Node B. The resource allocation may include a common resource. The WTRU may release the common resource. The release may be based on one or more conditions. The channel acquisition request or the resource allocation may include information related to one or more channels or resources.

What is claimed is: 1. A Node B comprising: a receiver configured to receive a channel acquisition request from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); a transmitter configured to transmit a resource allocation to the WTRU, wherein the resource allocation includes a common Enhanced Dedicated Channel (E-DCH) resource; the transmitter and the receiver configured to communicate with the WTRU using the common E-DCH resource; and the transmitter configured to transmit a release command for releasing the common E-DCH resource on an E-DCH Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH). 2. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the channel acquisition request includes a request for at least one of: Fractional Dedicated Physical Channel (F-DPCH) resources; Enhanced Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH) resources; or Enhanced Relative Grant Channel (E-RGCH) resources. 3. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the channel acquisition request includes at least one of: offset information, channelization codes, or signatures, associated with one or more channels. 4. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the resource allocation includes at least one of: uplink code information, a frame offset, downlink code information, or signatures related to channels. 5. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the common E-DCH resource included in the resource allocation transmitted by the Node B is released by the WTRU after a period of inactivity. 6. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the common E-DCH resource included in the resource allocation transmitted by the Node B is released by the WTRU on a condition that the WTRU has no data to send. 7. The Node B of claim 1 , wherein the common E-DCH resource included in the resource allocation transmitted by the Node B is released by the WTRU on a condition that the transmitter of the Node B transmits the release command to the WTRU. 8. A method for use in a Node B, the method comprising: receiving a transmission burst from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) at a determined power transmission level, wherein the WTRU does not have assigned dedicated physical channel (DPCH) or fractional DPCH (F-DPCH) resources; transmitting an Enhanced Dedicated Channel (E-DCH) resource allocation to the WTRU; and transmitting an E-DCH Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH) with an enhanced Radio Network Temporary Identifier (E-RNTI) to the WTRU that identifies the WTRU. 9. The method of claim 8 further comprising transmitting a release command on the E-AGCH to the WTRU to release the E-DCH resource. 10. The method of claim 8 further comprising transmitting a release command to the WTRU to release the E-DCH resource. 11. A Node B comprising: a receiver configured to receive a transmission burst from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WRU) at a determined power transmission level, wherein the WTRU does not have assigned dedicated physical (DPCH) or fractional DPCH (F-DPCH) resources; and a transmitter configured to transmit an E-DCH resource allocation to the WTRU and an E-DCH Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH) with an enhanced Radio Network Temporary Identifier (E-RNTI) to the WTRU that identifies the WTRU. 12. The Node B of claim 11 further comprising the transmitter further configured to transmit a release command on the E-AGCH to the WTRU to release the E-DCH resource. 13. The Node B of claim 11 further comprising the transmitter further configured to transmit a release command to the WTRU to release the E-DCH resource.
