Official abstract text for this publication.
A system for dynamically adjusting content for an interaction impairment can include a data provider, an end-user electronic device, a user identification module, and a data adjustment module. The data provider can be capable of providing access to electronic data. One or more characteristics of the electronic data can be incompatible with an impairment of an impaired user. The end-user electronic device can be configured to allow the impaired user to interact with electronic data. The user identification module can be configured to identify an identity of the impaired user and/or the impairment of the impaired user. The data adjustment module can be configured to automatically adjust incompatible characteristics of the electronic data prior to presentation by the end-user electronic device. This adjustment can increase the ability of the impaired user to utilize the electronic data with the end-user electronic device.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for dynamically adjusting content for an interaction impairment comprising: identifying of an impairment associated with an impaired user by an impairment-adaptive data interaction system, wherein the impairment-adaptive data interaction system is a computing system having components that support interaction of the impaired user with electronic data, and, wherein the impairment affects an ability of the impaired user to interact with electronic data, wherein the impairment is defined within an impairment profile associated with the impaired user and is accessible by the impairment-adaptive data interaction system, wherein the impairment profile expresses: acceptable limit values for a plurality of data characteristics incompatible with the impairment of the impaired user and a type of processing for handling incompatible data characteristics; in response to a data request, receiving electronic data from a data provider, wherein at least one characteristic of the electronic data is incompatible with the impairment of the impaired user, wherein said at least one incompatible characteristic adversely affects the ability of the impaired user to utilize the electronic data; automatically processing the received electronic data to adjust the at least one incompatible characteristic, wherein said processing reduces an adverse effect of the at least one incompatible characteristic upon the ability of the impaired user to utilize the electronic data; and providing the processed electronic data to the impaired user for interaction, wherein it is unnecessary for the impaired user to make additional modifications to the processed electronic data to compensate for their impairment. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the impairment further comprises: receiving identification data from the impaired user; and obtaining the impairment profile that correlates to the received identification data. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein, when the impairment-adaptive data interaction system is capable of handling multiple types of electronic data, said method further comprises: determining types of electronic data having a potential to include at least one of the plurality of incompatible data characteristics expressed in the obtained impairment profile, wherein the processing step is performed only for electronic data corresponding to a determined type. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the impairment further comprises: monitoring interactions of the impaired user with electronic data; from modifications made manually to the electronic data by the impaired user, determining at least one of the acceptable limit values for the plurality of incompatible data characteristics and the means for handling an incompatible data characteristic; and recording said determinations in the impairment profile. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein processing of the received electronic data further comprises: assessing characteristics of the received electronic data; determining an existence of the at least one incompatible characteristic from the assessed characteristics using the impairment profile; identifying at least one process for modifying the at least one incompatible characteristic of the electronic data; and applying the identified at least one process to the electronic data.
