Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments of nucleic acids comprise a nucleotide sequence encoding a live-attenuated chimeric Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus and a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter. The nucleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide can be operably linked to a promoter encoding the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof. Also provided is a live-attenuated recombinant Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter.

I claim: 1. A recombinant nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a live-attenuated chimeric Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus and a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter encodes the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof. 2. A live-attenuated recombinant Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding the heteroloqous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter encodes the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof. 3. A viral vaccine comprising a physiologically acceptable carrier and an immunogenic amount of a chimeric Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding the heteroloqous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter encodes the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof. 4. The viral vaccine of claim 3 wherein the physiologically acceptable carrier comprises an adjuvant. 5. A method of generating an antibody in an animal, wherein said method comprises the step of administering to an animal a pharmaceutically acceptable composition comprising a chimeric live-attenuated Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus, said virus comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter, and a physiologically acceptable carrier, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter encodes the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof. 6. A method of generating an immune response in an animal, wherein said method comprising the step of administering to an animal a pharmaceutically acceptable composition comprising a chimeric live-attenuated Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) VC2 virus, said virus comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter, and a physiologically acceptable carrier, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide operably linked to a promoter encodes the glycoprotein D (gD) of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or a fragment thereof.
