Having thus described the preferred embodiments, the invention is now claimed to be: 1. An alignment guide assembly, comprising: a body, the body comprising: an arm with a first end and a second end; an attachment portion at the first end; and an alignment portion at the second end; a fixation member slidingly connected to the attachment portion; and a guide pin protector slidingly engaged to the alignment portions; wherein the attachment portion comprises at least one hole configured to receive the fixation member; wherein the alignment portion comprises at least one through hole configured to receive the guide pin protector; wherein the at least one through hole comprises a plurality of holes which extend through the alignment portion; and wherein the plurality of holes comprises five holes, and wherein the five holes include a central hole and four holes positioned apart from each other by a distance and surround the central hole defining a top hole, bottom hole, right hole and left hole. 2. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of holes may be at least one of straight and angled relative to the alignment portion. 3. The alignment guide assembly of claim 2 , wherein the arm is a curved shape. 4. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the right hole and the left hole are angled towards the center hole. 5. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the top hole, bottom hole, right hole and left hole are angled towards the central hole, wherein a central axis for each of the top hole, bottom hole, right hole and left hole intersect a central axis of the central hole at a distance from the alignment portion. 6. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fixation member comprises: a knob portion; and a shaft portion extending away from the knob portion. 7. The alignment guide assembly of claim 6 , wherein the shaft portion comprises an engagement portion positioned at an end of the shaft portion. 8. The alignment guide assembly of claim 7 , wherein the engagement portion is at least one of a threaded portion, a press-fit mechanism and a deformable portion configured to couple to a bone plate. 9. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the guide pin protector comprises: a first end and a second end; a shaft portion having a handle portion connected to the first end; a tip proximate to the second end; and a hole extending from the first end to the second end. 10. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a fastener which has a first end and a second end, with a: a head portion at the first end; a shaft portion extending away from the head portion to the second end, wherein the shaft portion comprises a smooth portion and a threaded portion; and a through hole extending from the first end to the second end. 11. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the arm is configured to position the through hole of the attachment portion generally perpendicular to the at least one through hole of the alignment portion. 12. The alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the attachment portion further comprises an alignment protrusion extending from a bottom surface of the attachment portion. 13. The alignment guide assembly of claim 12 , wherein the alignment protrusion is configured to be inserted into an opening in a bone plate. 14. A bone plate for use with an alignment guide assembly of claim 1 , comprising: a first end, a second end, and an intermediate portion connecting the first end and second end, the bone plate further comprising: at least one through hole proximate the first end; at least one through hole proximate the second end; at least one opening between the first end and the second end; a compression slot on the second end; and at least one alignment marking positioned along the intermediate portion.
