Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

System management services can discover the addition of new physical devices, take automated actions to provision software (operating system and other related cloud services software components) on them, and scale out management infrastructure based on the new capacity of the total resources (including the newly added resources). A configuration file can contain the rules for automatic expansion and contraction of the system.

What is claimed: 1. A method for use by at least one processor and at least one memory device of a computing system, wherein computer-executable instructions are stored in the at least one memory device which, when executed by the at least one processor, perform a method comprising: detecting a connection of computing hardware to the computing system and removal of the computing hardware from the computing system; in response to detecting the connection of a subject computing hardware to the computing system, determining whether the subject computing hardware is new hardware or replacement hardware by comparing an identifier for the subject computing hardware with identifiers for previously removed hardware stored within the at least one memory device of the computing system; examining an XML file stored within the at least one memory device of the computing system, wherein the XML file stores rules for controlling automatic adjustment of a management infrastructure for the computing system; and automatically adjusting the management infrastructure for the computing system based on the detection of the connection of the subject computing hardware and the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file, wherein automatically adjusting the management infrastructure includes: (i) in response to determining that the subject computing hardware is new hardware, automatically loading a new configuration of software from the computing system onto the subject computing hardware based on the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file, and (ii) in response to determining that the subject computing hardware is replacement hardware, automatically loading a previous configuration of software from the computing system onto the subject computing hardware based on the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the computing system is automatically scaled up. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein new software management nodes are automatically loaded to the computing system. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting comprises detecting the removal of the subject computing hardware from the computing system. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein software management nodes are automatically removed from the computing system. 6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the computing system is automatically scaled down. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject computing hardware is for a cloud computing system. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein third party software nodes are adjusted based on the XML file. 9. A cloud computing system, comprising: one or more storage devices; and one or more processors in communication with the one or more storage devices, wherein the one or more processors are configured to: detect a connection of computing hardware to the cloud computing system and removal of the computing hardware from the cloud computing system; in response to detecting the connection of a subject computing hardware to the cloud computing system, determine whether the subject computing hardware is new hardware or replacement hardware by comparing an identifier for the subject computing hardware with identifiers for previously removed hardware stored within memory of the cloud computing system; examine an XML file stored within memory of the cloud computing system, wherein the XML file stores rules for controlling automatic adjustment of a management infrastructure for the cloud computing system; and automatically adjust the management infrastructure for the cloud computing system based on the detection of the connection or removal of the subject computing hardware and the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file, wherein, to automatically adjust the management infrastructure, the processor is further configured to: (i) in response to determining that the subject computing hardware is new hardware, automatically load a new configuration of software from the cloud computing system onto the subject computing hardware based on the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file, and (ii) in response to determining that the subject computing hardware is replacement hardware, automatically load a previous configuration of software from the cloud computing system onto the subject computing hardware based on the rules for controlling the automatic adjustment stored in the XML file. 10. The cloud computing system of claim 9 , wherein the cloud computing system is automatically scaled up. 11. The cloud computing system of claim 9 , wherein new software management nodes are automatically loaded to the cloud computing system. 12. The cloud computing system of claim 9 , wherein software management nodes are automatically removed from the cloud computing system.
