Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An operation of a user on a document is received. The received operation is analyzed. A structured guiding view for the document is generated by using a result of the analyzing and a basic structure of the document. In certain implementations, a user's reading interests and reading habits may be analyzed through the user's reading behaviors or notations added to the document by the user, and the result of the analyzing may be mapped into an intuitively presentable structured guiding view for the document.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: detecting, via a processor, multiple reading operations of a reader on a document that indicate: (1) how the reader reads the document, (2) different portions of the document repeatedly read by the reader, and (3) how the reader navigates between the different portions of the document indicated to have been repeatedly read by the reader, where the multiple reading operations are distinct from any annotations of the document; analyzing content within the different portions of the document by performing a real-time step by step analysis of the multiple reading operations of the reader related to the different portions of the document in response to detecting reading movements of the reader within the document, and in response to at least one of the detected multiple reading operations of the reader with respect to a portion of the content of the document: recording data related to reading behaviors of the reader with respect to the portion of the content of the document; and determining, using predetermined machine logic rules, a correspondence between the reading behaviors of the reader and one of a reading understanding, a reading interest, and a reading habit of the reader; and the method further comprising: deriving, from the analysis of the content within the different portions of the document by applying the predetermined machine logic rules and the reading behaviors of the reader, reading understanding of the content of the document by the reader, reader-determined logical relationships among the content of the different portions of the document according to how the reader navigates between the different portions of the document indicated to have been repeatedly read by the reader, and individual reader interest legends associated with the derived reader-determined logical relationships; and generating, step by step for the document portions that have been read by the user based upon the reading behaviors of the user, a navigable structured guiding diagram of the document that graphically depicts: (1) nodes corresponding to the different portions of the document read by the user, where nodes are notated with different symbolic representations representing the determined reading understanding, reading interest, or reading habit associated with each document portion, (2) derived symbolic inter-portion references that show the derived reader-determined logical relationships among the portions of the content, the reading understanding of the content of the document by the reader, and how the reader navigates between the different portions of the document based upon a result of the analyzing and a basic structure of the document, where each derived symbolic inter-portion reference is graphically attached to the navigable structured guiding diagram and is notated with a derived individual reader interest legend that comprises a link point keyword named using a derived individual reader interest keyword term that is programmatically derived from the content of the different portions of the document associated with the derived reader-determined logical relationship depicted by the derived symbolic inter-portion reference, and (3) at least one rendered drill-down navigation icon associated with a respective portion of the navigable structured guiding diagram that allows reader navigation into a more detailed structured guiding view of the respective portion of the navigable structured guiding diagram. 2. The method according to claim 1 , where the derived symbolic inter-portion references of the generated navigable structured guiding diagram comprise markings that guide at least the reader with respect to the reading behaviors of the reader, the derived reading understanding of the content of the document by the reader, and the derived reader-determined logical relationships among the portions of the content in association with the different portions of the document; and where generating, step by step for the document portions that have been read by the user based upon the reading behaviors of the user, the navigable structured guiding diagram of the document that graphically depicts the nodes corresponding to the different portions of the document read by the user comprises, as real-time reading assistance to the reader with reading the document: performing a real-time step by step generation of the nodes in response to detecting the reading movements of the reader within the document; and marking, using the symbolic representations, different nodes of the navigable structured guiding diagram of the different portions of the document with at least one of the reading understanding, the reading interest, and the reading habit of the reader. 3. The method according to claim 1 , where the data related to the reading behaviors of the reader with respect to the portion of the content of the document comprises, in combination, at least two of: data regarding a duration of time of the reader staying on a certain portion of the content of the document; data regarding jumping by the reader among a plurality of the different portions of the document; data regarding a frequency of the reader accessing a certain portion of the content of the document; and data regarding a reading operation on a portion of the content of the document by the reader via a peripheral device. 4. The method according to claim 1 , where the derived symbolic inter-portion references of the generated navigable structured guiding diagram comprise markings that guide at least the reader with respect to the reading behaviors of the reader, the derived reading understanding of the content of the document by the reader, and the derived reader-determined logical relationships among the portions of the content in association with the different portions of the document; and further comprising: performing a real-time step by step analysis of any annotations inputted by the reader related to the different portions of the document in response to detecting the reading movements of the reader within the content of the document; and in response to detecting at least one inputted annotation in a portion of the document by the reader: performing semantic processing on the inputted annotation in association with the portion of the content associated with the inputted annotation; and obtaining, from the semantic processing performed on the inputted annotation, at least one of the reading understanding, the reading interest, and the reading habit of the reader; and where generating, step by step for the document portions that have been read by the user based upon the reading behaviors of the user, the navigable structured guiding diagram of the document that graphically depicts the nodes corresponding to the different portions of the document read by the user comprises, as real-time reading assistance to the reader with reading the document: performing a real-time step by step generation of the nodes in response to detecting the reading movements of the reader within the document; and marking, using the symbolic representations, different nodes of the navigable structured guiding diagram of the different portions of the document with at least one of the reading understanding, the reading interest, and the reading habit of the reader. 5. The method according to claim 1 , where the basic structure of the document is obtained according to at least one of: a catalogue of contents in the document; index information of the document; and format and style information of the document. 6. The method according to claim 1 , where generating, step by step for the document portions that have been read by the user based upon the reading behaviors of the user, the navigable structured guiding diagram of
