A system and method for pairing a dialysis machine with peripheral devices are disclosed. An example system includes first and second memory devices, a first dialysis machine including a first memory device port configured to be connectable to the first memory device, and a second dialysis machine including a second memory device port configured to be connectable to the second memory device. The system also includes an intermediate data transfer unit including a port configured to connect to the first and the second memory devices to enable data transfer with the respective dialysis machines. The intermediate data transfer unit is configured to receive data from a weight sensor, a blood pressure sensor, or a remote exchange device for a patient and store the data to the first or second memory device to communicate the data to the respective first or second dialysis machine.

The invention is claimed as follows: 1. A dialysis system comprising: first and second memory devices; a first dialysis machine including a first memory device port configured to be connectable to the first memory device; a second dialysis machine including a second memory device port configured to be connectable to the second memory device; and an intermediate data transfer unit separate from the first and second dialysis machines and including a) an input device, and b) a port configured to connect individually to the first memory device and the second memory device to enable data transfer with the respective dialysis machines, the intermediate data transfer unit configured to: receive first data from a weight sensor, a blood pressure sensor, or a remote exchange device for a first patient, store the first data to the first or second memory device when the first or second memory device is connected to the intermediate data transfer unit such that the first data is communicated to the respective first or second dialysis machine after the first or second memory device is moved from the intermediate data transfer unit to the respective memory device port of the first or second dialysis machine, communicate the first data for the first patient to the first dialysis machine via the first memory device, and erase the first data for the first patient and enable accepting of new data after the input device is pressed. 2. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to receive the first data wirelessly from the weight sensor or the blood pressure sensor. 3. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to receive the first data additionally from at least one of (i) a temperature sensor, (ii) a bioimpedance sensor, or (iii) a glucose monitor. 4. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein erasing the first data enables the intermediate data transfer unit to receive second data from the weight sensor, the blood pressure sensor, or the remote exchange device for a second patient. 5. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to: after erasing the first data, receive second data from the weight sensor, the blood pressure sensor, or the remote exchange device for a second patient; and communicate the second data for the second patient to the second dialysis machine via the second memory device. 6. The dialysis system of claim 5 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to prevent receiving the second data for the second patient until after the first data for the first patient is erased. 7. The dialysis system of claim 5 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to: detect removal of the second memory device from the port of the intermediate data transfer unit; and erase the second data after detecting the removal of the second memory device. 8. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit stores the first data for the first patient to the first memory device, and wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to: receive second data for the first patient from the other of the weight sensor or the blood pressure sensor; and store the second data for the first patient to the first memory device. 9. The dialysis system of claim 5 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to: communicate the first data for the first patient to the first dialysis machine via the first memory device; and communicate the second data for the second patient to the first dialysis machine via the first memory device. 10. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the first memory device is assigned a username and password, and wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to prompt a user for the username and password before storing the first data to the first memory device. 11. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the first memory device is configured to communicate only with the first dialysis machine to prevent communication of the first memory device with the second dialysis machine. 12. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is configured to: receive ultrafiltration data from the remote exchange device; and store the ultrafiltration data to the first or second memory device when the first or second memory device is connected to the intermediate data transfer unit such that the ultrafiltration data is communicated to the respective first or second dialysis machine when the first or second memory device is moved from the intermediate data transfer unit to the respective memory device port of the first or second dialysis machine. 13. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second memory devices each include at least one of a flash drive and a universal serial bus (“USB”) drive. 14. An intermediate data transfer unit apparatus comprising: a housing separate from a housing of a first dialysis machine and a housing of a second dialysis machine; an input device; a port carried by the intermediate data transfer unit housing and connectable individually to a first memory device and a second memory device to enable data transfer with the first dialysis machine, which is configured to communicate with the first memory device, and the second dialysis machine, which is configured to communicate with the second memory device; and an interface for wirelessly receiving data from at least one of a weight sensor, a blood pressure sensor, or a remote exchange device, wherein the intermediate data transfer unit is programmed to: receive the data, via the interface, from at least one of the weight sensor, the blood pressure sensor, or the remote exchange device for a patient, store the data to the first or second memory device when the first or second memory device is connected to the port such that the data is communicated to the respective first or second dialysis machine after the first or second memory device is moved from the port to the respective first or second dialysis machine, communicate the data for the patient to the first dialysis machine via the first memory device, and erase the data for the patient and enable accepting of new data after the input device is pressed. 15. The intermediate data transfer unit apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the patient is a first patient and the data is first data and the intermediate data transfer unit is programmed to: after erasing the first data, receive second data from the weight sensor, the blood pressure sensor, or the remote exchange device for a second patient; and communicate the second data for a second patient to the second dialysis machine via the second memory device. 16.
