Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A fluid manifold system includes a manifold having at least portions of opposing flexible sheets welded together to form a fluid flow path therebetween, a fluid inlet communicating with the fluid flow path. A plurality of receiving containers are in fluid communication with the fluid flow path of the manifold, each receiving container bounding a compartment. The receiving containers can be formed integral with the manifold by welding together a second portion of the opposing flexible sheets or can comprise separate containers that are coupled to the manifold.

What is claimed is: 1. A fluid manifold system comprising: a first manifold comprising: a first sheet of a flexible polymeric film, the first sheet having an inside face and an opposing outside face; a second sheet of a flexible polymeric film, the second sheet having an inside face and an opposing outside face, the first sheet overlaying the second sheet so that the inside face of the first sheet faces the inside face of the second sheet, at least portions of the opposing first sheet and second sheet being welded together to form a primary fluid path therebetween, the first sheet and the second sheet being welded together so as to form a first seam line on one side of the primary fluid path and a second seam line on an opposing second side of the primary fluid path, at least a portion of the inside face of the first sheet being disposed directly against the inside face of the second sheet at a location between the first seam line and the second seam line, a fluid inlet communicating with the primary fluid path; a plurality of receiving container assemblies that are separate from the first manifold, each receiving container assembly comprising a first receiving container bounding a compartment; and a plurality of tubular connectors each extending in fluid communication from the primary fluid path of the first manifold to a corresponding one of the receiving container assemblies. 2. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein each tubular connector comprises a tubular outlet connector secured to the first manifold in fluid communication with the primary fluid path and a tubular inlet coupler secured to the corresponding receiving container assembly, the outlet coupler being secured to the inlet coupler. 3. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 2 , wherein each tubular outlet connector is secured to the first manifold by being welded between the opposing flexible sheets thereof. 4. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 2 , wherein each tubular outlet connector comprises: a flange welded to an interior surface of one of the opposing flexible sheets forming the first manifold; and a tubular stem projecting from the flange and passing through the flexible sheet to which the flange is welded. 5. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein each first receiving container has a fluid outlet with a tube or port coupled thereto. 6. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , first receiving container comprises a flexible bag. 7. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein each receiving container assembly comprises a pair of opposing flexible sheets that are separate from the first manifold and are welded together so as to form a plurality of receiving containers that each have their own compartment bounded between the opposing flexible sheets, the plurality of receiving containers comprising the first receiving container and a second receiving container, each receiving container assembly further comprising a secondary fluid path bounded between the opposing flexible sheets that communicates with each of the first receiving container and the second receiving container, the secondary fluid path being in fluid communication with a corresponding one of the plurality of tubular connectors. 8. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 7 , wherein each receiving container assembly further comprises: a first fluid inlet bounded between the opposing flexible sheets and extending from the secondary fluid path to the compartment of the first receiving container; and a second fluid inlet bounded between the opposing flexible sheets and extending from the secondary fluid path to the compartment of the second receiving container. 9. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 7 , wherein each receiving container assembly further comprises an upper edge and a plurality of spaced apart openings extending through the upper edge along the length thereof. 10. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 7 , wherein each receiving container assembly further comprises a plurality of perforations extending through the first and second flexible sheets between the first receiving container and the second receiving container. 11. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 7 , wherein each receiving container assembly further comprises a third receiver container formed by the pair of opposing flexible sheets. 12. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the opposing flexible sheets of the first manifold comprise two portions of a single flexible sheet folded on top of itself. 13. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first manifold and the plurality of receiving container assemblies are sealed closed and sterilized. 14. The fluid manifold system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the inside face of the first sheet is disposed directly against the inside face of the second sheet along a location extending between the first seam line and the second seam line. 15. A fluid manifold system comprising: a first manifold comprising at least portions of opposing flexible sheets welded together to form a primary fluid path therebetween, a fluid inlet communicating with the primary fluid path; a plurality of receiving container assemblies that are separate from the first manifold, each receiving container assembly comprising a first receiving container bounding a compartment; and a plurality of tubular connectors each extending in fluid communication from the primary fluid path of the first manifold to a corresponding one of the receiving container assemblies, wherein the plurality of tubular connectors includes a tubular outlet connector secured to the first manifold in fluid communication with the primary fluid path, the tubular outlet connector comprising: a flange welded to an interior surface of one of the opposing flexible sheets forming the first manifold; and a tubular stem projecting from the flange and passing through the flexible sheet to which the flange is welded.
