The invention relates to golf clubs, more particularly to mechanisms for fastening accessories to clubs. The invention provides a golf club configured to house an electronic device such as an RFID tag within a recess within the grip, thereby protecting the device from the stress, shock, and exposure that arises when a golf club is used.

What is claimed is: 1. A golf club grip, the grip comprising: an elongated member comprising a first end and a second end, wherein the elongated member is tapered along its length; the first end defining a sleeve opening sized to fit over a shaft of a golf club; the second end being distal the first end and having an open recess with an internal shape of a bore or a pocket dimensioned to receive an electronic device, wherein the open recess includes a flange, wherein the grip is formed monolithically of molded rubber and wherein a maximum length of the grip is between about 23 cm and about 31 cm, the grip further comprising the electronic device disposed within the open recess, wherein the electronic device comprises a battery and an accelerometer. 2. The grip of claim 1 , wherein when the grip is attached to a golf club with a shaft, the electronic device makes contact with a material of the grip and does not make contact with the shaft.
