An information processing apparatus is provided which include a display control unit that causes a touch panel to display a slider to specify one of specifiable values by an operating body as a specified value and a start edge value and an end edge value stored in a storage unit and if the touch panel acquires position information indicating position on the slider, decides a value corresponding to the position information as the specified value and also decides an interval to decide a new specifiable range in accordance with a contact state quantity acquired by the contact state quantity acquisition unit, specifies the new specifiable range based on the interval using the specified value as a reference.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus for displaying a video content, the apparatus comprising: a processor configured to: generate and display a slider object representing a playback range timeline of the video content, the slider object indicating a start time edge value and an end time edge value of a first range of time of the timeline, receive an indication that a user has touched the slider object, identify a time on the timeline corresponding to a position on the slider object indicated as being touched by the user, display a thumb on the slider object that indicates a current position of the indicated user selection on the slider object, display an indication of the time on the timeline corresponding to the current position of the indicated user selection on the slider object indicated by the thumb, and generate and display an updated start time edge value which replaces the start time edge value of the first range, wherein a second range of the timeline from the updated start time edge value to the end time edge value is less than the first range of the timeline. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to revert to displaying the slider object indicating the start time edge value of the first range, replacing the updated start time edge value, when an indication is received that the user has ceased using the thumb. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to identify an orthogonal movement from the position on the slider object on the timeline indicated as being touched by the user and display a predetermined interval around the thumb to adjust the playback speed. 4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein a distance of the orthogonal movement dictates the predetermined interval around the thumb to adjust the playback speed. 5. A method for displaying a video content, comprising: generating and displaying a slider object representing a playback range timeline of the video content, the slider object indicating a start edge value and an end edge value of a first range of time of the timeline, receiving an indication that a user has touched the slider object, identifying a time on the timeline corresponding to a position on the slider object touched by the user, displaying a thumb on the slider object that indicates a current position of the indicated user selection on the slider object, displaying an indication of the time on the timeline corresponding to the current position of the indicated user selection on the slider object indicated by the thumb, and generating and displaying an updated start edge value which replaces the start edge value of the first range of time of the timeline, wherein a second range of time of the timeline from the updated start edge value to the end edge value is less than the first range of time of the timeline. 6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, when an indication is received that the user has ceased using the thumb, reverting to the start edge value of the first range of time of the timeline. 7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising identifying an orthogonal movement from the position on the slider object on the timeline indicated as being touched by the user and displaying a predetermined interval around the thumb to adjust the playback speed. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein a distance of the orthogonal movement dictates the predetermined interval around the thumb to adjust the playback speed.
