The present invention discloses a flat bottom pillow pouch that can stand upright on its bottom transverse seal. The flat bottom pillow bag can be made from the same film as a standard pillow pouch and requires less film than prior art stand up packages. The flat bottom pillow pouch disclosed herein has no gussets.

What is claimed is: 1. An improved vertical form, fill, and seal machine, said machine comprising: a product delivery tube having an extension, said extension being movable between an extended position and a retracted position, wherein said extension comprises a pair of flexible flaps; a folding device for folding a bottom, transverse seal adjacent to a package bottom thereby creating a pair of flaps; and a pair of side folding members wherein each folding member holds each flap beneath said package bottom. 2. The improved machine of claim 1 wherein said pair of flexible flaps is configured to flex inwardly into the retracted position and flex outwardly into the extended position. 3. The improved machine of claim 2 , further comprising: a closing mechanism proximate to the pair of flexible flaps, wherein the closing mechanism is configured to engage the pair of flexible flaps to achieve the retracted position. 4. The improved machine of claim 1 wherein each of said side folding members further comprise a pivoting extension. 5. The improved machine of claim 1 further comprising at least one pedestal beneath said product delivery tube. 6. The improved machine of claim 5 , wherein the at least one pedestal is located within the extension. 7. The improved machine of claim 1 wherein said machine consists of a single vertical sealing device. 8. The improved machine of claim 1 , further comprising: a pair of sealing jaws located downstream from the product delivery tube. 9. The improved machine of claim 1 , further comprising: a heating element, wherein the heating element provides heat to at least one of a set of pivoting extensions, a set of pedestals; and the pair of side folding members.
