A method for configuring a User Equipment (UE) with a Channel Quality Index (CQI) table, the method includes: calculating a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) and Rank Indication (RI) according to a channel estimated result; determining a configured CQI index table according to received CQI index table indication information transmitted by a base station, the base station configuring the CQI index table by selecting the CQI index table from at least two CQI index tables; and calculating a CQI index according to the calculated PMI and the RI using the configured CQI index table.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for configuring a User Equipment (UE) with a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) index table, the method comprising: calculating a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) and Rank Indication (RI) according to a channel estimated result; determining a configured CQI index table according to received CQI index table indication information transmitted by a base station, the base station configuring the CQI index table by selecting the CQI index table from at least two CQI index tables; and calculating a CQI index according to the calculated PMI and the RI using the configured CQI index table, wherein one of the at least two CQI index tables includes one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order that is not supported by the other CQI index tables. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising reporting the calculated CQI index to the base station. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CQI index table indication information is received via Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CQI index table indication information is received via Medium Access Control (MAC) signaling. 5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the RRC signaling is carried via a common information element used for configuring PUCCH transmission. 6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the RRC signaling is carried via UE-specific information element used for configuring PUCCH transmission. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CQI index table including one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order is an alternative CQI table. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CQI index table including one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order is an extended CQI table. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the modulation of higher order is greater than 64 QAM. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the extended CQI table is a 4-bit CQI table. 11. A base station communicating with a User Equipment (UE) to configure the UE with a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) index table, the base station comprising: a processor coupled with a memory and arranged to determine a configured CQI index table from among at least two CQI tables; and a transceiver configured to transmit, to the UE, CQI index table indication information, the CQI index table indication information for configuring the UE with the determined CQI table, wherein one of the at least two CQI index tables includes one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order that is not supported by the other CQI index tables. 12. The base station according to claim 11 , wherein the CQI index table indication information is transmitted via Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling. 13. The base station according to claim 11 , wherein the CQI index table including one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order is an alternative CQI table. 14. The base station according to claim 11 , wherein the at CQI index table including one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order is an extended CQI table. 15. The base station according to claim 14 , wherein the modulation of higher order is greater than 64 QAM. 16. The base station according to claim 14 , wherein the extended CQI table is a 4-bit CQI table. 17. A User Equipment (UE) comprising: a first processor configured to calculate a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) and Rank Indication (RI) according to a channel estimated result; a receiver configured to receive Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) table indication information, the CQI index table indication information configuring a CQI index table determined from among at least two CQI index tables by a base station; and a second processor configured to calculate a CQI index according to the calculated PMI and RI using the configured CQI index table indicated by the CQI index table indication information, wherein one of the at least two CQI index tables includes one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order that is not supported by the other CQI index tables. 18. The UE according to claim 17 further comprising a transmitter configured to report the calculated CQI index to the base station. 19. The UE according to claim 17 , wherein the CQI index table including one or more CQI indices corresponding to a modulation of higher order is an extended CQI table wherein the modulation of higher order is greater than 64 QAM. 20. The UE according to claim 19 , wherein the extended CQI table is a 4-bit CQI table.
