Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A portable bag is provided, comprising: a plurality of surfaces; at least two handling openings, the at least two handling openings being integrally defined on at least one of the plurality of surfaces; and an interior liner further defining the interior compartment of the portable bag, the interior liner being positioned intermediate the interior compartment and the plurality of surfaces, at least two portions of the interior liner being inset relative to the plurality of surfaces to define respective cavities substantially aligned with the at least two handling openings. An associated assembly is also provided, including the portable bag further comprising a set of eyelets positioned on each of the front and rear surfaces of the plurality of surfaces and the assembly further comprising a portable bag dispenser comprising at least two portions configured to slidably extend through the set of eyelets.

What is claimed: 1. A portable bag comprising: a plurality of surfaces configured to define an interior compartment for holding articles and comprising at least a top surface, the top surface further comprising a first top portion, a second top portion, and a closure mechanism, the closure mechanism being operable to selectively open and close at least a portion of the top surface and positioned intermediate to the first and second top portions, wherein the closure mechanism is further operable to selectively separate the first and second top portions relative to one another, so as to define an opening therebetween, the opening being configured for receipt of said articles to be held in the portable bag; at least two handling openings, two of said at least two handling openings being integrally defined on one of the plurality of surfaces, the at least two handling openings being positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of the at least one of the plurality of surfaces, and comprising at least a front surface and a rear surface connected to each other by a pair of side surfaces, and oriented parallel to a plane defined by the one of the plurality of surfaces, and sized to each receive a user's hand there-through, a first of the at least two handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of the front surface and offset relative to a horizontal midpoint of the front surface, the first of the at least two handle openings being positioned on either side of the horizontal midpoint; a second of the at least two handle openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of the rear surface and offset relative to a horizontal midpoint of the rear surface, the second of the at least two handling openings being positioned on either side of the horizontal midpoint; and an interior liner further defining the interior compartment of the portable bag, said interior liner being positioned intermediate the interior compartment and the plurality of surfaces and secured to the portable bag, at least two portions of said interior liner being inset relative to the plurality of surfaces, so as to define respective cavities there-between, said respective cavities being substantially aligned with an inset relative to said two of said at least two handling openings and sized so as to receive the user's hand within the respective cavities while preventing the user's hand from accessing a plurality of packages stored within the portable bag. 2. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein said at least two handling openings are positioned substantially along a horizontal midpoint of said at least one of the plurality of surfaces. 3. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein: said at least two handling openings comprise four handling openings; the plurality of surfaces comprise at least a front surface and a rear surface connected relative to each other by a pair of side surfaces; a first set of two of said four handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said front surface; a second set of two of said four handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said rear surface; and at least one of the first and second sets of two of said four handling openings are further positioned substantially along a horizontal midpoint of said front or rear surface. 4. The portable bag of claim 3 , wherein both of said first and second sets of two of said four handling openings are further positioned substantially along a horizontal midpoint of each of said front and rear surfaces. 5. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein: said at least two handling openings comprise eight handling openings; the plurality of surfaces comprise at least a front surface and a rear surface connected relative to each other by a pair of side surfaces; a first set of four of said eight handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said front surface and offset relative to a horizontal midpoint of said front surface, two of said four handling openings being positioned on either side of said horizontal midpoint; and a second set of four of said eight handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said rear surface and offset relative to a horizontal midpoint of said rear surface, two of said four handling openings being positioned on either side of said horizontal midpoint. 6. The portable bag of claim 5 , wherein said offset relative to said horizontal midpoint of said front surface is different than said offset relative to said horizontal midpoint of said rear surface. 7. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein: said at least two handling openings comprise six handling openings; the plurality of surfaces comprise at least a front surface and a rear surface connected relative to each other by a pair of side surfaces; a first set of two of said six handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said front surface and along a horizontal midpoint of said front surface; and a second set of four of said six handling openings are positioned substantially adjacent opposing sides of said rear surface and offset relative to a horizontal midpoint of said rear surface, two of said four handling openings being positioned on either side of said horizontal midpoint. 8. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein said at least two handling openings are further defined by at least two corresponding grommets. 9. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein said closure mechanism is at least one of a zipper, a magnetic strip assembly, a spring-loaded assembly, or a draw-string assembly. 10. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein: said portable bag is constructed of a foldable material; and said closure mechanism is configured such that said first and second top portions are biased toward each other such that the portable bag is, in its natural orientation, in a closed configuration. 11. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein: the plurality of surfaces comprise at least a bottom surface and a top surface opposite the bottom surface; said portable bag further comprises at least one set of eyelets configured to accept therethrough at least a portion of an assembly configured to hold or support a plurality of said portable bags; and said at least one set of eyelets is positioned nearer said top surface than said bottom surface of said portable bag, so as to enable a hanging configuration of said portable bag relative to said assembly. 12. The portable bag of claim 11 , wherein: said at least one set of eyelets comprises two sets of eyelets; the plurality of surfaces comprise at least a front surface and a rear surface connected relative to each other by a pair of side surfaces; a first set of said two sets of eyelets is located on said front surface of said portable bag; and a second set of said two sets of eyelets is located on said rear surface of said portable bag. 13. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said plurality of surfaces further includes at least one of a shipping label or a machine-readable barcode symbol. 14. The portable bag of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of surfaces are constructed of a foldable material. 15. An assembly for facilitating consolidated transport of a plurality of articles, the assembly comprising: a portable bag comprising: a plurality of surfaces configured to define an interior compartment for holding articles, the plurality of surfaces comprising at least a front surface and a rear surface connected relative to each other by a pair of side surfaces; at least two handl
