Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A computer-implemented system and method for dynamic travel coordination is provided. A common destination is designated for a group of travelers for arrival at a common time. A mode of travel and a set of travel criteria are designated for each traveler. The travel criteria are determined for at least one of the travelers by receiving travel criteria for the at least one traveler from another traveler and receiving from the at least one traveler modifications to the received travel criteria. An initial route to the common destination at the common arrival time is created for each of the travelers based on the travel mode and travel criteria for that traveler. The initial route of one or more of the travelers is revised based on at least one of that traveler's designated travel criteria, a progress of one or more of the travelers, and travel conditions of the initial route.

What is claimed is: 1. A system for dynamic travel coordination, comprising: a route module to create a travel route to a common destination for each individual traveler in a group; a comparison module to compare the routes for two or more of the travelers and to revise the route of at least one of the travelers by joining the route for that traveler with another traveler; a monitor to monitor progress to the destination by the joined travelers as a single traveler and the other travelers; a route revision module to revise the route of one or more of the joined travelers and at least one other traveler based on the monitored progress, comprising: a time determination module to determine an actual time cost for travel by the joined travelers or the other traveler; a time comparison module to compare the actual time cost with a calculated time cost for the travel by the joined travelers or the other traveler; and a route generation module to generate a revised route for the joined travelers or the other traveler when the actual time cost exceeds the calculated time cost. 2. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a joinder module to further join with the joined travelers at least one further traveler or a different set of joined travelers. 3. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a transmission module to transmit one or more messages between two or more of the travelers. 4. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a condition monitor to monitor travel conditions for the joined travelers and the other travelers and to revise the route of travel for at least one of the joined travelers and one or more of the other travelers based on the monitored conditions. 5. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one of: a route revision notification module to notify one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers of the route revision; and a travel time revision notification module to notify one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers of a revised travel time due to the route revision; and an arrival time notification module to notify the destination of a revised arrival time of one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers. 6. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one of: a message module to provide the travel routes to the travelers; and a receipt module to receive from each traveler, one of an acceptance or denial of the route. 7. A system according to claim 6 , further comprising: an identification module to identify a further route for those travelers that rejected the provided route and to provide the further routes to the travelers that rejected the provided routes. 8. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a final route module to finalize the routes for each of the travelers, to generate an overall travel route for all of the travelers based on the finalized routes, and to send the overall travel route to each of the travelers. 9. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a recommendation module to provide to one or more of the travelers route recommendations from the destination to a further destination. 10. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising: a request to initiate the travel route creation from one of the travelers and comprising an identity of the other travelers. 11. A method for dynamic travel coordination, comprising: creating a travel route to a common destination for each traveler in a group; comparing the routes for two or more of the travelers and revising the route of at least one of the travelers by joining the route for that traveler with another traveler in the group; monitoring progress to the destination for the joined travelers as a single traveler and the other travelers; revising the route of one of the joined travelers and at least one other traveler based on the monitored progress, comprising: determining an actual time cost for travel by the joined travelers or the other traveler; comparing the actual time cost with a calculated time cost for the travel by the joined travelers or the other traveler; and generating a revised route for the joined travelers or the other traveler when the actual time cost exceeds the calculated time cost. 12. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: further joining with the joined travelers at least one further traveler or a different set of joined travelers. 13. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: transmitting one or more messages between two or more of the travelers. 14. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: monitoring travel conditions for the joined travelers and the other travelers; and revising the route of travel for at least one of the joined travelers and one or more of the other travelers based on the monitored conditions. 15. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising at least one of: notifying one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers of the route revision; and notifying one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers of a revised travel time due to the route revision; and notifying the destination of a revised arrival time of one or more of the joined travelers and at least one of the other travelers. 16. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising at least one of: providing the travel routes to the travelers; and receiving from each traveler, one of an acceptance or denial of the route. 17. A method according to claim 16 , further comprising: identifying a further route for those travelers that rejected the provided route; and providing the further routes to the travelers that rejected the provided routes. 18. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: finalizing the routes for each of the travelers; generating an overall travel route for all of the travelers based on the finalized routes; and sending the overall travel route to each of the travelers. 19. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: providing to one or more of the travelers route recommendations from the destination to a further destination. 20. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising: initiating the travel route creation based on a request from one of the travelers, wherein the request includes an identity of the other travelers.
