A compound having formula (Ph 3 C) m Ar(OR) n , wherein Ph represents a phenyl group, Ar is an aromatic ring system having from six to twenty carbon atoms, R is C 1 -C 18 alkyl or C 7 -C 12 aralkyl, m is one or two, and n is an integer from one to four.

The invention claimed is: 1. A compound having formula (Ph 3 C) m Ar(OR) n , wherein Ph represents a phenyl group, Ar is a C 6 -C 12 hydrocarbyl aromatic ring system, m is two, n is an integer from one to three and R is C 2 -C 18 alkyl. 2. The compound of claim 1 in which Ar is a benzene ring system, n is two, and R is C 3 -C 12 alkyl.
