Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Described herein is a degradable linking agent of formula Photo 1 -LG-Photo 2 , wherein Photo 1 and Photo 2 independently represent at least one photoreactive group and LG represents a linking group comprising one or more silicon atoms or one or more phosphorous atoms. The degradable linking agent includes a covalent linkage between at least one photoreactive group and the linking group, wherein the covalent linkage between at least one photoreactive group and the linking group is interrupted by at least one heteroatom. A method for coating a support surface with the degradable linking agent, coated support surfaces and medical devices are also described.

What is claimed is: 1. A coated medical device comprising: a medical device comprising a substrate, the substrate comprising a surface; and a polymeric coating disposed over the surface of the substrate, wherein the polymeric coating comprises a linking agent; and a polymer; wherein the linking agent comprises the formula: wherein Photo 1 and Photo 2 , independently, represent one or more photoreactive groups, wherein R is alkyl or aryl, a photoreactive group, hydroxyl or salt thereof, or a combination thereof. 2. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein R is phenyl, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, t-butyl, hydroxyl or a salt thereof. 3. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the photoreactive groups comprise an aryl ketone. 4. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the photoreactive groups comprise benzophenone. 5. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the photoreactive groups are covalently bonded to the polymer. 6. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the photoreactive groups are covalently bonded to the surface of the substrate. 7. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the polymer is hydrophilic. 8. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the polymer is hydrophobic. 9. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent includes a charged group. 10. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent is uncharged. 11. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent comprises bis(4-benzoylphenyl) hydrogen phosphate. 12. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent comprises sodium bis(4-benzoylphenyl phosphate). 13. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent comprises potassium bis(4-benzoylphenyl phosphate). 14. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the linking agent comprises lithium bis(4-benzoylphenyl phosphate). 15. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the medical device comprises a vascular device. 16. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the medical device comprises a catheter. 17. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the medical device comprises a graft. 18. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the surface of the substrate comprises carbon-hydrogen bonds. 19. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the polymeric coating is directly attached to the surface of the substrate. 20. The coated medical device of claim 1 , wherein the substrate includes a least one selected from the group consisting of silicone, polyolefin, polystyrene, poly(vinyl chloride), polycarbonate, poly(methyl methacrylate), parylene, polyacrylonitrile, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, polyamide, polyimide, polyurethane, a phenolic, amino-epoxy resin, and polyester.
