An electronic package adapted for connection to a rear frame member of an electric machine. The electronic package includes a support structure having opposite first and second axial ends spaced along a package central axis. A plurality of power electronics devices connected to the support structure and electronic control circuitry is carried by the support structure. The electronic control circuitry is substantially surrounded by and operatively connected to the power electronics devices. The control circuitry includes circuit board material having opposing substantially parallel sides, wherein the control circuitry comprises first and second control circuit portions respectively disposed on separate first and second circuit board material portions wherein the first and second circuit board material portions substantially coextend with distinct first and second imaginary planes, respectively. An electric machine employing such an electronic package is also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. An electronic package adapted for connection to a rear frame member of an electric machine, the electric machine defining a machine central axis, and the electronic package comprising: a support structure having opposite first and second axial ends spaced along a package central axis, the package central axis being coincident with the machine central axis when the electronic package is connected to the rear frame member; a plurality of power electronics devices connected to the support structure; and electronic control circuitry carried by the support structure, the electronic control circuitry substantially surrounded by and operatively connected to the power electronics devices, the control circuitry comprising circuit board material having opposing substantially parallel sides, the circuit board material thickness defining edges disposed between the opposing sides, wherein the control circuitry comprises first and second control circuit portions respectively disposed on separate first and second circuit board material portions, wherein the first and second circuit board material portions substantially coextend with distinct first and second imaginary planes, respectively; and wherein at least one of the first and second circuit board material portions is oriented with a respective side thereof substantially parallel with the package central axis whereby the at least one circuit board material portion is positioned edge-wise toward the rear frame member. 2. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein both of the first and second circuit board material portions are oriented with a respective side thereof substantially parallel with the package central axis. 3. The electronic package of claim 2 , wherein the package central axis is located between the first and second circuit board material portions. 4. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein the package central axis is substantially coextensive with one of the first and second imaginary planes. 5. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second circuit board material portions is oriented with a side thereof substantially perpendicular to the package central axis. 6. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein the first and second circuit board material portions are portions of a singular piece of circuit board material. 7. The electronic package of claim 6 , wherein the singular piece of circuit board material is deformed between the first and second control circuit portions. 8. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein the package central axis is substantially surrounded by circuit board material portions of the electronic control circuitry. 9. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second circuit board material portions is defined by a piece of substantially rigid circuit board material. 10. The electronic package of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry comprises a singular piece of flexible circuit board material having at least one integrated conductor. 11. An electronic package adapted for connection to a rear frame member of an electric machine, the electric machine defining a machine central axis, and the electronic package comprising: a support structure having opposite first and second axial ends spaced along a package central axis, the package central axis being coincident with the machine central axis when the electronic package is connected to the rear frame member; a plurality of power electronics devices connected to the support structure; and electronic control circuitry carried by the support structure, the electronic control circuitry substantially surrounded by and operatively connected to the power electronics devices, the control circuitry comprising circuit board material having opposing substantially parallel sides, wherein the control circuitry comprises first and second control circuit portions respectively disposed on separate first and second circuit board material portions, wherein the first and second circuit board material portions substantially coextend with distinct first and second imaginary planes, respectively; and wherein at least one of the first and second circuit board material portions is oriented with a respective side thereof substantially parallel with the package central axis; wherein the control circuitry comprises a singular piece of flexible circuit board material having at least one integrated conductor; and wherein the first and second circuit board material portions are separate first and second pieces of substantially rigid circuit board material, respectively, and wherein the first and second pieces of substantially rigid circuit board material are individually mounted on the flexible circuit board material piece, and each of the first and second control circuit portions is electrically connected to an integrated conductor of the flexible circuit board material piece. 12. The electronic package of claim 10 , wherein the first and second circuit board material portions are portions of the singular piece of flexible circuit board material and the first and second control circuit portions respectively comprise electronic components mounted directly to the first and second flexible circuit board material portions, the first and second control circuit portions in electrical communication with an integrated conductor of the flexible circuit board material. 13. The electronic package of claim 10 , further comprising a plurality of signal leads, the control circuitry operatively connected to each power electronics device through a respective signal lead, wherein the plurality of signal leads is defined by the singular piece of flexible circuit board material. 14. An electric machine comprising a stator defining the machine central axis, a rotor surrounded by and rotatable relative to the stator about the machine central axis, a rear frame member rotatably fixed relative to the stator and through which the machine central axis extends, and an electronic package according to claim 1 , wherein the machine central axis extends through the electronic package and the support structure is connected to the rear frame member. 15. The electric machine of claim 14 , wherein the machine central axis and the package central axis are coincident. 16. The electric machine of claim 14 , wherein the support structure is metallic and the power electronics devices are in conductive thermal communication with the support structure; wherein the electric machine is liquid-cooled and the rear frame member is in convective thermal communication with a flow of liquid coolant, and the support structure is in conductive thermal communication with the rear frame member, and wherein conductive heat transfer through the support structure occurs between the power electronics devices and the frame rear member, and convective heat transfer occurs between the rear frame member and the liquid coolant. 17. An electric machine, comprising a stator defining the machine central axis, a rotor surrounded by and rotatable relative to the stator about the machine central axis, a rear frame member rotatably fixed relative to the stator and through which the machine central axis extends, and an electronic package; the electronic package including: a support structure having opposite first and second axial ends spaced along a package central axis; a plurality of power electronics devices connected to the support structure; and electronic control circuitry carried by the support structure, the electronic control circuit
