The invention claimed is: 1. A retrofit trim lighting device comprising: a bracket comprising a planar portion, two attachment portions positioned at opposing ends of the planar portion and normal to the planar portion, and an opening positioned centrally on the planar portion and between the two flanged portions; a pair of torsion springs each secured directly to a corresponding one of the two attachment portions of the bracket and configured to mount the retrofit trim lighting device within a recessed housing; a retrofit housing comprising at least one light engine; and an engagement element secured to the retrofit housing through the opening of the bracket such that, when so secured, the retrofit housing and the bracket are rotatable relative to one another about a rotation axis that intersects a surface defined by the planar portion of the bracket through a center of the opening. 2. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the planar portion of the bracket defines a bracket plane, and the rotation axis passes through the center of the opening, is normal to the bracket plane, and is parallel to the two attachment portions. 3. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the engagement element comprises a pass through portion that extends outward from the engagement element and is configured to be at least partially disposed within the opening. 4. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein (a) at least one of the engagement element and the retrofit housing comprises a pass through element having an outer surface, (b) the pass through portion is configured to be partially disposed within the opening, and (c) the outer surface is configured to engage with a peripheral surface of the opening. 5. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 4 , wherein the engagement of the peripheral surface by the outer surface allows the retrofit housing to be selectively rotated with respect to the housing. 6. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , further comprising a frame secured to the retrofit housing on an opposite side of the retrofit housing from the engagement element and configured to provide the retrofit trim lighting device with an aesthetic appearance. 7. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 6 , wherein the frame is generally square or rectangular in shape. 8. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one light engine comprises at least one light emitting diode (LED) package. 9. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the retrofit housing is affixed to the engagement element through the opening by one or more fasteners. 10. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , further comprising one or more optical elements configured to condition light emitted by the at least one light engine. 11. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the retrofit trim lighting device is configured to be mounted within a recessed lighting device receptacle. 12. A retrofit trim lighting device comprising: a bracket for mounting the retrofit trim lighting device, the bracket comprising an opening, two attachment portions, and a planar portion, wherein (a) the planar portion defines a bracket plane, (b) the opening is centrally positioned on the planar portion between the two attachment portions and defines a rotation axis that passes through the center of the opening and that is normal to the bracket plane, and (c) the two attachment portions are positioned at opposing ends of the planar portion and normal to the planar portion; a retrofit housing comprising at least one light engine; and an engagement element secured to the retrofit housing through the opening of the bracket such that, when so secured, the retrofit housing and the bracket are rotatable relative to one another, with the rotation being about the rotation axis. 13. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 12 , further comprising a frame secured to the retrofit housing on an opposite side of the retrofit housing from the engagement element and configured to provide the retrofit trim lighting device with an aesthetic appearance. 14. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 13 , wherein the frame is generally square or rectangular in shape. 15. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 13 , wherein (a) the retrofit trim lighting device is configured to be mounted in a recessed lighting device receptacle and (b) when the retrofit trim lighting device is mounted within the recessed lighting device receptacle, the frame may be rotated with respect to the recessed lighting device receptacle. 16. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one light engine comprises at least one light emitting diode (LED) package. 17. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 12 , further comprising one or more optical elements configured to condition light emitted by the at least one light engine. 18. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 12 , wherein (a) at least one of the engagement element and the retrofit housing comprises a pass through element having an outer surface, (b) the pass through portion is configured to be partially disposed within the opening, and (c) the outer surface is configured to engage with a peripheral surface of the opening. 19. The retrofit trim lighting device of claim 18 , wherein the engagement of the peripheral surface by the outer surface allows the retrofit housing to be selectively rotated with respect to the housing. 20. A lighting kit for a retrofit trim lighting device comprising: a retrofit housing comprising at least one light engine and having a frame affixed thereto; a bracket comprising a planar portion, two attachment portions positioned at opposing ends of the planar portion and normal to the planar portion, and an opening positioned centrally on the planar portion and between the two attachment portions; an engagement element configured to secure the retrofit housing to the bracket through the opening of the bracket such that, when so secured, the retrofit housing and the bracket are rotatable to one another about a rotation axis that intersects a surface defined by planar portion of the bracket at a center of the opening; and one or more fasteners configured to fasten the engagement element to the retrofit housing through the opening of the bracket.
