Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An implantable medical device for implantation in a hip joint of a human patient is provided. The medical device comprises: at least one artificial hip joint surface adapted to replace at least the surface of at least one of the caput femur and acetabulum. At least one artificial hip joint surface comprises: a positioning hole with at least one opening in said at least one artificial hip joint surface. The hole is adapted to be placed and dimensioned such that the medical device is adapted to be fitted using a positioning shaft and at least partly surround the shaft, for positioning the at least one artificial hip joint surface in a desired position in the hip joint. The hole is adapted to be fitted using the positioning shaft, when the shaft is stabilized and placed in at least one of the femoral bone and the pelvic bone for positioning said medical device inside the hip joint.

The invention claimed is: 1. A medical device system for implantation in a hip joint of a human patient, the medical device system comprises: an artificial caput femur adapted to replace at least the surface of at least one of the caput femur and the acetabulum, wherein the artificial caput femur comprises a positioning through hole, and a removeable positioning shaft having a first end portion and a second end portion, wherein the second end portion is adapted to be stabilized by and placed in at least one of the femoral bone and the pelvic bone, wherein the positioning through hole of the artificial caput femur is adapted to surround the positioning shaft, for positioning the artificial caput femur in a desired position in the hip joint, wherein the positioning through hole has a cross sectional area such that at least the first end portion of the positioning shaft can pass through the positioning hole and wherein the positioning shaft is adapted to be placed in the positioning through hole of the artificial caput femur and in a positioning hole of an artificial acetabulum, for positioning the artificial caput femur and artificial acetabulum in relation to the at least one of the femoral bone and the pelvic bone and for aligning the artificial caput femur in relation to the artificial acetabulum. 2. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein the artificial caput femur comprises at least two artificial caput femur parts. 3. The medical device system according to claim 2 , wherein the at least two artificial caput femur parts are adapted to be interconnected in situ for forming said artificial caput femur. 4. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning shaft comprises at least one threaded portion for fixating the positioning shaft to at least one of the femoral bone and the pelvic bone. 5. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning through hole of the artificial caput femur is circular, such that the artificial caput femur can be rotated around the positioning shaft while positioned on the shaft. 6. The medical device system according to claim 2 , wherein the system further comprising a second positioning shaft, wherein said first positioning shaft is adapted to position a first of said at least two artificial caput femur parts, and wherein the second positioning shaft is adapted to position a second of said at least two artificial caput femur parts. 7. The medical device system according to claim 6 , wherein said first positioning shaft, and said second positioning shaft are adapted to be connected to each other after implantation in the hip joint of the patient. 8. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein the artificial caput femur comprises at least three artificial caput femur parts. 9. The medical device system according to claim 2 , wherein each of the artificial caput femur parts comprises a positioning through hole. 10. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein the removeable positioning shaft is a removeable stiff positioning shaft. 11. The medical device system according. to claims 1 wherein the positioning through hale of the artificial caput femur is non-circular, such that the artificial caput femur can be rotationally stabilized by the positioning shaft, while positioned on the shaft. 12. The medical device system according to claims 1 , wherein the artificial caput femur is adapted to replace the surface of the caput femur. 13. The medical device system according to claims 1 , wherein the artificial caput femur is adapted to replace the surface of the acetabulum. 14. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein said positioning through hole is positioned in a center of a convex portion of the artificial caput femur. 15. The medical device system according to claim 1 , wherein said positioning shaft is adapted to position said artificial caput femur in at least two axis.
