A power distribution unit including a plurality of outlet cores arranged along an outlet panel of a housing and mounted to one or more circuit boards with an unobstructed space between adjacent pairs of the plurality of outlet cores. The outlet cores each extend a portion of the distance between the circuit boards and the outlet panel, and the outlet panel includes a plurality of apertures each corresponding to an associated one of the plurality of outlet cores. One or more overcurrent protection devices are mounted in a non-outlet panel aligned along the length of the housing.

We claim: 1. A power distribution unit (PDU), comprising: an elongate PDU housing having opposed front and rear panels with a plurality of side panels extending therebetween, the front panel having a width between about 1.7 inches and about 3.0 inches, and including: an outlet region extending along a length of the PDU and having a width less than 0.83 inches; and a non-outlet region positioned side-by-side with and offset from the outlet region and one or more electrical devices mounted in the non-outlet region of the front panel; a plurality of outlet cores arranged along the outlet region of the front panel, wherein the outlet region includes one or more apertures each corresponding to one or more of the plurality of outlet cores; and a power input coupled with the PDU housing and connectable to an external power source. 2. The PDU of claim 1 , further comprising one or more printed circuit boards (PCBs), wherein the plurality of outlet cores are mounted to the one or more PCBs with an unobstructed space between adjacent pairs of the plurality of outlet cores. 3. The PDU of claim 2 , wherein each of the plurality of outlet cores extends a portion of the distance between the one or more PCBs and the outlet region of the front panel, wherein an upper surface of each of the plurality of outlet cores terminates in close proximity to and below the outlet region of the front panel. 4. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores are spaced equidistantly along the length of the PDU. 5. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores are spaced along a pitch of approximately 1.7 inches. 6. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the one or more electrical devices comprise one or more overcurrent protection devices. 7. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores each includes at least three aligned electrical terminals. 8. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores extend substantially the entire length of the housing. 9. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores are electrically interconnected to the power input. 10. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein selected ones of the plurality of outlet cores each include: a first terminal coupled to a first power line from the power input; and a second terminal coupled to a second power line from the power input. 11. The PDU of claim 10 , wherein the first power line is a first phase power line from the power input, and the second power line is a neutral line from the power input. 12. The PDU of claim 10 , wherein the power input is a polyphase power input, the first power line is a first phase power line from the polyphase power input, and the second power line is a second phase power line from the polyphase power input. 13. The PDU of claim 12 , wherein the front panel includes indicia indicating the phase coupled to the outlet core from the polyphase power input. 14. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores comprise 42 outlet cores extending substantially the entire length of the housing. 15. The PDU of claim 1 , wherein the housing has a width of 2.18 inches or less. 16. A power distribution unit (PDU), comprising: an elongate PDU housing including: an outlet panel extending along a length of the PDU; and a non-outlet panel parallel to and offset from the outlet panel, and located on the same side of the PDU as the outlet panel; a power input coupled with the PDU housing and connectable to an external power source; one or more PCBs mounted within the housing and electrically interconnected to the power input; a plurality of outlet cores arranged along the outlet panel and mounted to the one or more PCBs with an unobstructed space between adjacent pairs of the plurality of outlet cores, wherein the outlet cores each extend a portion of the distance between the one or more PCBs and the outlet panel, and wherein the outlet panel includes a plurality of apertures each corresponding to an associated one of the plurality of outlet cores; and one or more overcurrent protection devices mounted in the non-outlet panel and aligned along the length of the housing. 17. The PDU of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores each includes at least three aligned electrical terminals. 18. The PDU of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores each have a common construction. 19. The PDU of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of outlet cores comprise 42 outlet cores extending substantially the entire length of the housing. 20. The PDU of claim 16 , further comprising at least one power metrics display mounted in the non-outlet panel. 21. The PDU of claim 16 , further comprising at least one communications interface mounted in the non-outlet panel.
