Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A pallet includes a top including a product support surface and an opposing underside, with outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside. Four feet each extend away from the underside of the top, and each foot has a first opening facing out through the product supporting surface of the top. The feet thus allow stacking of such pallets with the feet of a first such pallet extending into the first openings of a second such pallet. Product tab receiving areas are for receiving respective product tabs, with each product tab receiving area having a slot within the top adjacent a respective outer side of the top. The slot has a pair of spaced apart opposing long sidewalls and a pair of spaced apart opposing short sidewalls adjacent to the pair of long sidewalls, with one of the long sidewalls including a laterally extending tongue for engaging an opening in one of the product tabs.

That which is claimed is: 1. A pallet for transporting products thereon and comprising: a top comprising a product support surface and an opposing underside, with outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside; four feet each extending away from the underside of the top, each foot having a first opening facing out through the product support surface of the top, the feet thus allowing stacking of a plurality of such pallets with the feet of a first such pallet extending into the first openings of a second such pallet; and a plurality of product tab receiving areas for receiving a plurality of respective product tabs, each product tab receiving area having a slot within the top adjacent a respective outer side of the top, the slot having a pair of spaced apart opposing long sidewalls and a pair of spaced apart opposing short sidewalls adjacent to the pair of long sidewalls, with one of the long sidewalls comprising a laterally extending tongue for engaging an opening in one of the product tabs. 2. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the long sidewalls of each slot has a curved shape. 3. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein each tongue is recessed below the product support surface of the top. 4. The pallet according to claim 3 wherein at least a portion of each tongue is recessed at least 15 mm below the product support surface of the top. 5. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein each tongue has a rounded shape. 6. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein each tongue has a flat bottom surface. 7. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein the long sidewall opposite each tongue comprises a tapered leg extending outwards therefrom, with the tapered leg having a downwards taper towards the tongue. 8. The pallet according to claim 7 wherein an outermost surface of each tapered leg has a free end that extends below a bottom surface of the tongue, with the free end being vertically aligned with an outermost surface of the tongue. 9. The pallet according to claim 7 wherein each tapered leg has a flat underside that is parallel to the product support surface of the top. 10. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein the top has a rectangular shape with four corners, with outer sides of each corner being recessed relative to the adjacent outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside of the top. 11. The pallet according to claim 1 wherein the four feet are arranged to define a short side window at a short side of the top for receiving tines of a fork lift for lifting the pallet, and two of the feet have a front face directed towards the short side window, with each front face including an upper portion adjacent the underside and a lower portion for contacting the ground, with the upper portion of each front face having a cut out so as to allow for a longer forward surface area on the underside of the top for contacting the tines of the forklift. 12. A pallet for transporting products thereon and comprising: a top comprising a product support surface and an opposing underside, with outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside; and a plurality of product tab receiving areas for receiving a plurality of respective product tabs, each product tab receiving area having a slot within the top adjacent a respective outer side of the top, the slot having a pair of spaced apart opposing long sidewalls and a pair of spaced apart opposing short sidewalls adjacent to the pair of long sidewalls, with one of the long sidewalls comprising a laterally extending tongue for engaging an opening in one of the product tabs. 13. A pallet for transporting products thereon comprising: a top comprising a product support surface and an opposing underside, with outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside; four feet each extending away from the underside of the top, each foot having a first opening facing out through the product support surface of the top, the feet thus allowing stacking of a plurality of such pallets with the feet of a first such pallet extending into the first openings of a second such pallet; and at least one display attachment feature adjacent at least one of the sides of the top, and including a vertically arranged, inwardly recessed, sidewall slot with an open top for receiving a descending tab from a display package on the pallet, the sidewall slot having an inner sidewall and an opposing partial outer sidewall, and a pair of spaced apart opposing end walls adjacent to the inner and partial outer long sidewalls, with the partial outer sidewall being open to expose the inner sidewall except for recessed ends of the sidewall slot, and at least one engagement tooth on the exposed inner sidewall. 14. The pallet according to claim 13 wherein the at least one engagement tooth has a tapered side and a flat bottom so as to have a saw-tooth shape. 15. The pallet according to claim 13 wherein the recessed ends of the sidewall slot have a first width, with the at least one engagement tooth extending away from the inner sidewall a distance that is longer than the first width. 16. The pallet according to claim 13 wherein the sidewall slot further includes a reinforcement rib that forms a closed bottom of the sidewall slot. 17. The pallet according to claim 13 wherein the top has a rectangular shape with four corners, with outer sides of each corner being recessed relative to the adjacent outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside of the top. 18. A pallet for transporting products thereon comprising: a top comprising a product support surface and an opposing underside, with outer sides extending between the product support surface and the underside; and at least one display attachment feature adjacent at least one of the sides of the top, and including a vertically arranged, inwardly recessed, sidewall slot with an open top for receiving a descending tab from a display package on the pallet, the sidewall slot having an inner sidewall and an opposing partial outer sidewall, and a pair of spaced apart opposing end walls adjacent to the inner and partial outer long sidewalls, with the partial outer sidewall being open to expose the inner sidewall except for recessed ends of the sidewall slot, and at least one engagement tooth on the exposed inner sidewall.
