A device for filtering air comprising a base, a fan functionally attached to the base, an air filter releasably attached to the base, and a substantially air impermeable outer sleeve is provided.
Opening claim text (preview).
What is claimed is: 1. An air filtering device comprising: a base comprising an air inlet and an air outlet; a fan assembly comprising a fan blade attached with said base, wherein said fan assembly moves a volume of air through said air outlet; an air filter bag comprising a plurality of pores for filtering particulates, wherein said air filter bag further comprises a proximal open end directed attached with the base and in air flow communication with said air outlet of said base and a distal closed end, wherein said proximal open end defines an opening sized to at least surround said fan blade, and wherein said volume of air flows into said proximal open end and flows out of said air filter bag through said plurality of pores, wherein said distal end comprises a gusset, and wherein the air filter bag comprises a non-woven polyolefin material; a substantially air impermeable outer sleeve comprising a first open end, a second open end, and an air flow path therebetween, wherein said outer sleeve is in air flow communication with said air outlet and wherein said outer sleeve is releasably attached to said base at said first open end, and wherein said outer sleeve envelops said air filter around its longitudinal axis, wherein a spatial gap is formed between the air filter bag and the substantially air impermeable outer sleeve, wherein the spatial gap is at least 3 mm at the first open end of the outer sleeve and at least 15 mm at the second open end of the outer sleeve. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein said fan provides an air flow of 50 to 150 CFM at 10 Pa to 75 Pa of pressure. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein said fan comprises a diameter of 10 cm to 25 cm. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein said air filter bag is releasably attached to said base. 5. The device of claim 1 , wherein said air filter bag is tapered at said distal closed end. 6. The device of claim 4 , wherein said air filter bag comprises an attachment member selected from the group consisting of: clips, elastic bands, gripping materials, hook and loop fasteners, and combinations thereof. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein said air filter bag does not contact said outer-sleeve while said device is activated. 8. The device of claim 1 , wherein said air filter bag has an air flow surface area of 0.1 m 2 to 1 m 2 . 9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the air flow exiting said second open end of said outer sleeve is at least 60% of the air flow entering said first end of said outer sleeve. 10. The device of claim 1 , wherein said outer sleeve is constructed from a flexible material. 11. The device of claim 1 , wherein said volume of air flows out of said air filter bag at an exit velocity of 0.5 m/s to 3.0 m/s. 12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the face velocity of air exiting said air filter is 25 to 50 fpm, when said device is activated. 13. The device of claim 1 , wherein said device provides a sound power from 35 dBA to 45 dBA. 14. The device of claim 1 , wherein said base comprises a tapered shroud comprising a first step for receiving said air filter bag and second step for receiving said first open end of said outer sleeve. 15. The device of claim 1 , further comprising an air quality sensor. 16. The device of claim 1 , further comprising an end-of-life sensor, wherein the end-of-life sensor comprises a color-change indicator or a timer.
