Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A pneumatic mixing valve is provided, which includes a housing that defines a first inlet, a second inlet and an outlet. The first inlet is coupled to a first fluid source and the second inlet is coupled to a second fluid source. The housing defines a first chamber and a second chamber. The pneumatic mixing valve includes a mixing system. The mixing system includes a piston that is movable by at least one of the first fluid and the second fluid. The housing defines a fluid passageway that extends from near the first inlet to the second chamber and the pneumatic mixing valve includes an actuator that is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the fluid passageway is closed such that the outlet is open, and in the second position, the fluid passageway is open such that the outlet is closed.

What is claimed is: 1. A pneumatic mixing valve comprising: a housing that defines a first inlet, a second inlet and an outlet, the first inlet adapted to be coupled to a first fluid source and the second inlet adapted to be coupled to a second fluid source; the housing defining a first chamber fluidly separated from a second chamber, the first chamber in fluid communication with the first inlet, the second inlet and the outlet; a mixing system at least partially disposed in the first chamber, the mixing system including a piston that is movable by at least one of the first fluid and the second fluid; the housing defining a fluid passageway that extends from near the first inlet to the second chamber; an actuator that is movable between a first position and a second position, and in the first position the fluid passageway is closed such that the outlet is open, and in the second position, the fluid passageway is open such that the outlet is closed; and a shutoff valve having a second piston disposed in the second chamber, the second piston including a piston valve seat that seats against the outlet when the actuator is in the second position. 2. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the first chamber comprises a mixing chamber spaced apart from a positioning chamber. 3. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the piston includes a head and a rod, and the head is received within a positioning chamber and is movable within the positioning chamber. 4. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 3 , further comprising a poppet valve disposed in the first inlet that cooperates with the rod of the piston such that the movement of the piston moves the poppet valve between a first position and a second position. 5. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 4 , further comprising a second poppet valve disposed in the second inlet that cooperates with the rod of the piston such that the movement of the piston moves the poppet valve and the second poppet valve. 6. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 5 , wherein the second poppet valve is movable by the rod between a closed position and an open position, and in the closed position the first fluid flows out of the outlet and in the open position the second fluid flows out of the outlet. 7. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 1 , further comprising a check valve coupled to the housing adjacent to the second inlet that seals against an opening defined in the housing to prevent a flow of fluid back into the second inlet. 8. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 1 , wherein the fluid passageway comprises a first fluid passageway and a second fluid passageway, the first fluid passageway having an inlet in fluid communication with the first inlet and a first outlet in communication with a third inlet of the second fluid passageway, the second fluid passageway having a second outlet in fluid communication with the second chamber and a portion of the actuator is received in the first outlet of the first fluid passageway to close the fluid passageway. 9. A pneumatic mixing valve comprising: a housing that defines a first inlet, a second inlet and an outlet, the first inlet adapted to be coupled to a first fluid source and the second inlet adapted to be coupled to a second fluid source; the housing defining a first chamber fluidly separated from a second chamber, the first chamber in fluid communication with the first inlet, the second inlet and the outlet; a mixing system at least partially disposed in the first chamber, the mixing system including a piston that is movable by at least one of the first fluid and the second fluid; the housing defining a fluid passageway that extends from near the first inlet to the second chamber; a check valve coupled to the housing adjacent to the second inlet that seals against an opening defined in the housing to prevent a flow of fluid back into the second inlet; and an actuator that is movable between a first position and a second position, and in the first position the fluid passageway is closed such that the outlet is open, and in the second position, the fluid passageway is open such that the outlet is closed, wherein the piston includes a head and a rod, and the head is received within a positioning chamber and is movable within the positioning chamber. 10. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 9 , further comprising a poppet valve disposed in the first inlet that cooperates with the rod of the piston such that the movement of the piston moves the poppet valve between a first position and a second position. 11. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 10 , further comprising a second poppet valve disposed in the second inlet that cooperates with the rod of the piston such that the movement of the piston moves the poppet valve and the second poppet valve. 12. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 11 , wherein the second poppet valve is movable by the rod between a closed position and an open position, and in the closed position the first fluid flows out of the outlet and in the open position the second fluid flows out of the outlet. 13. The pneumatic mixing valve of claim 9 , further comprising a shutoff valve having a second piston disposed in the second chamber, the second piston including a piston valve seat that seats against the outlet when the actuator is in the second position. 14. A pneumatic mixing valve comprising: a housing that defines a first inlet, a second inlet and an outlet, the first inlet adapted to be coupled to a first fluid source and the second inlet adapted to be coupled to a second fluid source; the housing defining a first chamber fluidly separated from a second chamber, the first chamber in fluid communication with the first inlet, the second inlet and the outlet; a mixing system at least partially disposed in the first chamber, the mixing system including a piston that is movable by at least one of the first fluid and the second fluid, the piston includes a head and a rod, and the head is received within a positioning chamber and is movable within the positioning chamber; the housing defining a fluid passageway that extends from near the first inlet to the second chamber; a poppet valve disposed in the first inlet that cooperates with the rod of the piston such that the movement of the piston moves the poppet valve between a first position and a second position; and an actuator that is movable between a first position and a second position, and in the first position the fluid passageway is closed such that the outlet is open, and in the second position, the fluid passageway is open such that the outlet is closed. 15.
