What is claimed is: 1. A cell culture comprising isolated expanded human non-embryonic, non-germ cells, the cells having undergone 22 cell doublings in culture, wherein the cells express CD90 and CD49c and one or more of sox-9, sox-11, hox-A5, and MSX-1, wherein the cell population is derived from human bone marrow. 2. The cell population of claim 1 , further expressing telomerase. 3. The cell population of claim 1 , wherein the cell population differentiates into cardiac muscle cells. 4. The cell population of claim 1 , expressing at least one trophic factor selected from the group consisting of IL-6, VEGF, MCP 1 and BDNF. 5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising the cell population of any of claims 1 - 4 .
