A putter-type golf club head that, when oriented in a reference position, includes a blade portion having a striking face, a top line, and a sole, the striking face in turn including a face center. The club head further includes a rear portion in communication with, and rearward of, the blade portion, and it includes an alignment element rearward of, and recessed toward the sole from, the top line. The alignment element defines a virtual center line segment oriented in a substantially front-to-rear direction at a height between 19 mm and 24 mm from a lowermost point of the sole, the center line segment having a length no less than 34 mm and being not spaced more than 10 mm from a virtual vertical plane passing through the face center and extending generally perpendicular to the striking face. A width of the club head is no less than 3.0 in.

What is claimed is: 1. A putter-type golf club head that, when oriented in a reference position, comprises: a blade portion comprising a striking face, a top line, and a sole, the striking face including a face center; a rear portion in communication with, and rearward of, the blade portion; an alignment element rearward of, and recessed toward the sole from, the top line, the alignment element defining a virtual center line segment oriented in a substantially front-to-rear direction at a height between 21 mm and 22 mm from a lowermost point of the sole, the center line segment having a length no less than 34 mm and being not spaced more than 10 mm from a virtual vertical plane passing through the face center and extending generally perpendicular to the striking face; a club head height of between 20 mm to about 30 mm; and a club head width of no less than 3.0 in. 2. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the center line segment is not spaced more than 5 mm from the virtual vertical plane. 3. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the height of the center line segment is substantially equal to the radius of a golf ball. 4. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the height of the center line segment is substantially equal to 21.3 mm. 5. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the height of the center line segment is substantially constant. 6. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein a depth of the club head is no greater than 1.50 in. 7. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein: the rear portion comprises a rear portion top surface; a projection extends upwardly from the rear portion top surface, the projection having a projection top surface; and the alignment element is formed in the projection top surface. 8. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the alignment element comprises an at least partial cylindrical body. 9. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the center line segment is substantially coincident with the virtual vertical plane. 10. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the length of the center line segment is between about 36 mm and about 41 mm. 11. A putter-type golf club head that, when oriented in a reference position, comprises: a blade portion comprising a striking face, a top line, and a sole, the striking face including a face center; a rear portion in communication with, and rearward of, the blade portion and having a rear portion top surface; a projection extending upwardly from the rear portion top surface, the projection having a projection top surface; an alignment element formed in the projection top surface, the alignment element defining a virtual center line segment oriented in a substantially front-to-rear direction at a substantially constant height from a lowermost point of the sole between 21 mm and 22 mm, the center line segment being recessed toward the sole from the top line and having a length no less than 34 mm; and a club head height of between 20 mm to about 30 mm. 12. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the center line segment is not spaced more than 10 mm from a virtual vertical plane passing through the face center and extending generally perpendicular to the striking face. 13. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein a width of the club head is no less than 3.0 in. 14. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the alignment element is indented below the top line of the blade portion. 15. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein a depth of the club head is no greater than 1.50 in. 16. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the alignment element comprises an at least partial cylindrical body. 17. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the height of the center line segment is substantially equal to 21.3 mm. 18. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the length of the center line segment is between about 36 mm and about 41 mm.
