Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The disclosure provides methods and apparatuses for multiple user uplink. One aspect of the disclosure provides a method for wireless communication. The method comprises receiving a first wireless message from an access point indicating an uplink transmission opportunity and a target transmission duration for each of a plurality of user terminals including a first user terminal. The method also comprises changing a planned transmission duration of a second wireless message from the first user terminal to fit the target transmission duration. The method also comprises transmitting the second wireless message from the first user terminal over the target transmission duration.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method for wireless communication, comprising: receiving a first wireless message from an access point indicating an uplink transmission opportunity, a start time, and a target uplink transmission duration common for a plurality of user terminals including a first user terminal, wherein the first wireless message indicates that simultaneous uplink transmissions by the plurality of user terminals during the uplink transmission opportunity are each required to have a duration of the target uplink transmission duration; adding an amount of fill data to a second wireless message sufficient to fit the target uplink transmission duration; and transmitting, beginning at the indicated start time, the second wireless message from the first user terminal for the target uplink transmission duration at least partially simultaneously with another message transmitted by a second user terminal of the plurality of user terminals for the target uplink transmission duration. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein a transmission power level of the transmitted second wireless message and transmission power levels of the transmitted wireless messages from each of the plurality of user terminals are constant during the target uplink transmission duration. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the fill data comprises at least one of an end of frame padding delimiter, a subframe pad octet, or an aggregated media access control protocol data unit end of file subframe. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the at least one end of frame padding delimiter is added to an aggregated media access control protocol data unit of the second wireless message or an aggregated media access control service data unit of the second wireless message. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adjusting a transmission data rate employed for transmitting the second wireless message to fit the target transmission uplink duration. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adjusting a level of aggregation employed with the second wireless message to fit the target uplink transmission duration. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the level of aggregation is adjusted in an aggregated media access control protocol data unit or an aggregated media access control service data unit of the second wireless message. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the uplink transmission opportunity is determined during a setup phase. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second wireless message comprises a physical layer convergence protocol data unit. 10. A device for wireless communication, comprising: a receiver configured to receive a first wireless message from an access point indicating an uplink transmission opportunity, a start time, and a target uplink transmission duration for a plurality of user terminals, wherein the first wireless message indicates that simultaneous uplink transmissions by the plurality of user terminals during the uplink transmission opportunity are each required to have a duration of the target uplink transmission duration; a processor configured to add an amount of fill data to a second wireless message sufficient to fit the target uplink transmission duration; and a transmitter configured to transmit, beginning at the indicated start time, the second wireless message for the target uplink transmission duration, at least partially simultaneously with another message transmitted by a second user terminal of the plurality of user terminals for the target uplink transmission duration. 11. The device of claim 10 , wherein a transmission power level of the transmitted second wireless message and transmission power levels of the transmitted wireless messages from each of the plurality of user terminals are constant during the target uplink transmission duration. 12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the fill data comprises at least one of an end of frame padding delimiter, a subframe pad octet, or an aggregated media access control protocol data unit end of file subframe. 13. The device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one end of frame padding delimiter is added to an aggregated media access control protocol data unit of the second wireless message or an aggregated media access control service data unit of the second wireless message. 14. The device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to adjust a transmission data rate employed for transmitting the second wireless message in response to the target uplink transmission duration. 15. The device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to adjust a level of aggregation employed with the second wireless message in response to the target uplink transmission duration. 16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the level of aggregation is adjusted in an aggregated media access control protocol data unit or an aggregated media access control service data unit of the second wireless message. 17. The device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the uplink transmission opportunity during a setup phase. 18. The device of claim 10 , wherein the second wireless message comprises a physical layer convergence protocol data unit. 19. A method for wireless communication, comprising: transmitting a first message to a first user terminal and a second user terminal, the first message indicating an uplink transmission opportunity, a start time, and a target uplink transmission duration common for a plurality of user terminals including the first and second user terminals, wherein the first message indicates that simultaneous uplink transmissions by the plurality of user terminals during the uplink transmission opportunity are each required to have a duration of the target uplink transmission duration; and receiving, beginning at the start time and for the target uplink transmission duration indicated by the first message, second and third wireless messages from the first and second user terminals respectively, wherein the second wireless message includes an amount of fill data sufficient to fit the target uplink transmission duration. 20. The method of claim 19 , wherein a power level of the received second wireless message and power levels of the received wireless messages from each of the plurality of user terminals are constant during the target uplink transmission duration. 21. A device for wireless communication, comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit a first wireless message to a first user terminal and a second user terminal, the first message indicating an uplink transmission opportunity, a start time, and a target uplink transmission duration common for a plurality of user terminals including the first and second user terminals, wherein the first wireless message indicates that simultaneous uplink transmissions by the plurality of user terminals during the uplink transmission opportunity are each required to have a duration of the target uplink transmission duration; and a receiver configured to receive, beginning at the start time and for the target uplink transmission duration indicated by the first wireless message, second and third wireless messages from the first and second user terminals respectively wherein the second wireless message includes an amount of fill data sufficient to fit the target uplink transmission duration. 22. The device of claim 21 , wherein a power level of the received second wireless message and power levels of the received wireless messages from each of the plu
