The invention claimed is: 1. A wound packing device comprising: a plurality of spacing elements, the spacing elements comprising a nanotextured surface, the nanotextured surface exhibiting nanometer scale surface roughness; a connector connecting the plurality of spacing elements to one another; wherein the plurality of spacing elements and the connector are capable of absorbing exudate; and wherein the connector comprises a lumen, and wherein the lumen of the connector is in fluid communication with one or more of the spacing elements such that fluid from the one or more spacing elements can be transferred to the lumen of the connector. 2. The wound packing device of claim 1 , wherein the lumen of the connector is accessible from an end of the connector providing fluid communication between one or more of the spacing elements and the end of the connector. 3. A wound packing device comprising: a plurality of spacing elements, the spacing elements comprising a nanotextured surface; a container, the plurality of spacing elements disposed within the container; the container comprising an egress neck that can be opened to form an orifice through which the spacing elements can be dispensed; and a packing material disposed inside of the container. 4. The wound packing device of claim 3 , the egress neck comprising an extended cannula through which the wound packing device can be delivered into a deep wound or fistula.
