Devices and methods of use for brush holder assemblies are disclosed. Brush holder assemblies including a mounting block and a brush holder are disclosed. Also illustrated is a brush holder assembly including a first portion in sliding engagement with a second portion. In some embodiments the brush holder includes a channel, such that at least a portion of the mounting block is disposed within the channel of the brush holder.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of removably installing a conductive brush in contact with a conductive surface of an electrical generator in a power plant without stopping motion of the conductive surface of the electrical generator, the method comprising: slidably engaging a channel of a brush holder assembly with an elongate mounting block fixedly attached to a mount base of the electrical generator, the brush holder assembly including: a brush holder including a brush box having a plurality of sidewalls including a first side wall, a second side wall, and a third side wall; a conductive brush positioned in the brush box for longitudinal movement therein, the conductive brush including a first side surface facing the first side wall, a second side surface facing the second side wall, a third side surface facing the third side wall, a fourth side surface, and a lower surface; wherein the step of slidably engaging the channel of the brush holder assembly with the elongate mounting block includes moving the brush holder assembly from a disengaged position in which the lower surface of the brush is not contacting the conductive surface of the electrical generator to an engaged position in which the lower surface of the brush is contacting the conductive surface of the electrical generator; and wherein as the brush holder assembly moves from the disengaged position to the engaged position, a stationary brush release fixed relative to the elongate mounting block engages a brush catch of the brush holder assembly to release a force exerted on the fourth side surface of the brush by the brush catch. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the brush holder assembly includes a spring in contact with a surface of the brush catch. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the spring is configured to press the brush catch against the fourth side surface of the brush in the disengaged position. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the force exerted on the fourth side surface of the brush by the brush catch forces the second side surface of the brush against the second side wall of the brush box in the disengaged position. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the brush catch is not in contact with the fourth side surface of the brush in the engaged position. 6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising rotatably moving the brush catch out of engagement with the fourth side surface of the brush as the brush holder assembly is moved to the engaged position. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the brush box has an upper open end and a lower open end opposite the upper open end; wherein the lower surface of the brush is positioned beyond the lower open end of the brush box to contact the conductive surface of the electrical generator; and wherein an axis of rotation of the brush catch is closer to the lower open end of the brush box than a location in which the brush catch engages the fourth side surface of the brush in the disengaged position. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the second and fourth side surfaces of the brush are on opposite sides of the brush. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising actuating a handle to lock the brush holder assembly to the elongate mounting block in the engaged position. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the handle is attached to the brush holder assembly while slidably engaging the channel of the brush holder assembly with the elongate mounting block. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the brush catch is rotatable about an axis of rotation. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the brush box has an upper open end and a lower open end opposite the upper open end; wherein the lower surface of the brush is positioned beyond the lower open end of the brush box to contact the conductive surface of the electrical generator; and wherein the axis of rotation of the brush catch is closer to the lower open end of the brush box than a location in which the brush catch engages the fourth side surface of the brush in the disengaged position. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel is defined between side surfaces of a beam of the brush holder. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the brush box is fixed to the beam. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the beam includes an upper portion pivotably coupled to a lower portion of the beam. 16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising: pivoting the upper portion relative to the lower portion to lock the brush holder assembly to the elongate mounting block.
