What is claimed is: 1. Isolated nucleic acid encoding an antibody that binds PMEL17, wherein the antibody comprises: a) (i) HVR-H1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3, (ii) HVR-H2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4, (iii) HVR-H3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5, (iv) HVR-L1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 6, (v) HVR-L2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 7, and (vi) HVR-L3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 8; or b) (i) HVR-H1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 13, (ii) HVR-H2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 14, and (iii) HVR-H3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 15, (iv) HVR-L1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 16, (v) HVR-L2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 7, and (vi) HVR-L3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 8; or c) HVR-H1, HVR-H2, HVR-H3, HVR-L1, HVR-L2, and HVR-L3 of the antibody produced by hybridoma 7509(31D1.6.7) having ATCC Accession No. PTA-12862. 2. A host cell comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1 . 3. A method of producing an antibody comprising culturing the host cell of claim 2 so that the antibody is produced. 4. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1 , wherein the antibody comprises: a) a VH sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and a VL sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2; or b) a VH sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9 and a VL sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 10; or c) a VH sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the VH sequence of the antibody produced by hybridoma 7509(31D1.6.7) having ATCC Accession No. PTA-12862 and a VL sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the VL sequence of the antibody produced by hybridoma 7509(31D1.6.7) having ATCC Accession No. PTA-12862. 5. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is an IgG1, IgG2a or IgG2b antibody. 6. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is a human, humanized, or chimeric antibody. 7. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is an antibody fragment that binds PMEL17. 8. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1 , wherein PMEL17 has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 26 or SEQ ID NO: 27. 9. Isolated nucleic acid encoding an antibody that binds PMEL17, wherein the antibody comprises: (a) a VH sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and a VL sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2; or (b) a VH sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9 and a VL sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 10; or (c) a VH sequence of the antibody produced by hybridoma 7509(31D1.6.7) having ATCC Accession No. PTA-12862 and a VL sequence of the antibody produced by hybridoma 7509(31D1.6.7) having ATCC Accession No. PTA-12862. 10. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 9 , wherein the antibody is an IgG1, IgG2a or IgG2b antibody. 11. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 9 , wherein the antibody is a human, humanized, or chimeric antibody. 12. A host cell comprising the nucleic acid of claim 9 . 13. A method of producing an antibody comprising culturing the host cell of claim 12 so that the antibody is produced. 14. Isolated nucleic acid encoding an antibody that binds to PMEL17, wherein the antibody comprises (i) HVR-H1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 20, (ii) HVR-H2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 21, and (iii) HVR-H3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 22, (iv) HVR-L1 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 23, (v) HVR-L2 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 24, and (vi) HVR-L3 comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 25. 15. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 14 , wherein the antibody comprises a VH sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 11 and a VL sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 12. 16. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 14 , wherein the antibody comprises a VH sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 11 and a VL sequence having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 12. 17. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 14 , wherein the antibody is an IgG1, IgG2a or IgG2b antibody. 18. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 14 , wherein the antibody is a human, humanized, or chimeric antibody. 19. A host cell comprising the nucleic acid of claim 14 . 20. A method of producing an antibody comprising culturing the host cell of claim 19 so that the antibody is produced.
